Most people do not care about or watch basketball. If you also do not, no one cares. I don't care about a lot of things, I don't feel the need to go around telling people I don't care about those things.
Does Bud Light care if anybody cares? I think they do.

None of this has anything to do with the Spurs so could you exit stage right? K thx

Who's the next great Spurs assistant?

I understand this is sacrilegious in these parts but does Pop at 74 still have it for next 5 years? Should he step aside like Pat Reilly and bring in a young talented coach but still be the godfather.

I think he has it enough to put the right assistants around him.

If you knew the politics of most of the athletes today, you wouldn't watch much.
Not worth the effort for the NBA to me.

And this is my point. You're not really taking some big principled stand because it's not something that you really care about. There's no risk in it for you because chances are, you weren't gonna watch more than a handful of games over the same span that you're now "boycotting". You haven't been a regular on any of the Spurs threads and then you show up to tell us how you're not gonna watch because we re-signed the winningest coach of all time, because you don't like his personal political opinions? Take your virtue signaling elsewhere and leave this thread for hoops.

Exactly. Its hilarious to me that so many are proud of taking down Bud Light. The reality is Bud Light is a pretty insignificant part of our lives and extremely easy to replace. The real lesson here is if you're Bud Light you should have known that.

Boycotting your long time favorite team or Apple or alcohol in general would be way bigger sacrifices.

If Cidy can hit the three at a decent clip, he's not going to be in Austin long. He's too talented on defense to not break the rotation at some point this year.

I'd waive branham just for his decision making in the last three minutes tonight.

Apart from that I thought it was Wesley's best game by far. No turnovers. Gotta feed it to Vic though. Only down one. No need to take a three.

Barlow looked great tonight as well.

Also wemby hit his last shot. All wesley had to do was give it back to wemby who had a wide open look and was calling for it.

Vegas summer league game 2 thoughts:

-the team as a whole wasn't very good until the 4th quarter when they ramped up the intensity and defense. We shot 6-22 from 3 and missed 11 free throws and gave up 12 offensive rebounds as well. In a game we lost by 5, those counting stats stand out, not to mention some of the poor shot selection on individual possessions down the stretch.
-the "Wemby's a bust" narrative was fun while it lasted. He was by far the best player in the court tonight and got better as the game went on. He looked really good operating out of the mid post, and the coaching staff did a better job being intentional of getting him touches there. He continues to show off very impressive vision and passing ability, he would have had a couple assists if guys could finish. As he becomes more of a threat scoring, the more his assist numbers will go up because of the attention he commands. He did leave some points at the free throw line going 7-12, but his aggressiveness was good to see. He's still gotta get stronger, but this is the Wemby we all know he can be. Excellent in defense again with 3 blocks, 1 steal, and only committed 1 foul.
-Wesley was the only other guy that I thought had a good game. 14 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 turnovers, and a steal. He played really hard and helped get us back in the game along with Wemby. He really struggled navigating around screens on defense, but he moved his feet better on that end tonight. The quick 3 he took when it was a 1 point game was a killer, but that was far the most egregious **** during that end stretch.
-Branham was bad. No other way to put it. 1-17 shooting ain't gonna cut it and he's still not a good defender. The worst part about it is that he was taking shots late in the 4th when we needed to give the ball to the hot hand, and he sure wasn't it.
-Champagnie finally came back down to earth tonight. He at least didn't force any shots and was ok on the defensive. He also rebounds pretty well for a wing.
-Barlow showed some really nice touch from the midrange in his jumpers and he continues to love his feet on switches to smaller players really well. However, he was not good in the paint on either end. Portland's physical bigs wore him out on the glass and he didn't finish around the rim on offense.
-Cissoko had his best offensive night. 8 points, 2-2 from 3, 2 assists, and 0 turnovers. I thought this was his worst defensive game. Too many cheap fouls where he jumps or reaches for no good reason, and he needed to be more active on the boards.

Not unexpected and is the right call.

Now gotta see if the summer Spurs can bounce back and play like they did before Wemby.

Watching the reactions to Wemby's debut basically validated to me that a lot of folks were tuning into Summer League for the first time EVER. These games are brutal for the most part. The guys can only run the most basic stuff and there's no real warm time. You can't make much of these and for real players it can get pretty dangerous. 80% of the players don't have a spot in the league and will kill you to get one.

In Wemby's case, it's even worse because he's been on this insane media tour. I bet he's been in the gym less than at any point in the last couple of years. He showed me enough even in the bad game to say he is going to be very, very good. The size is staggering and then he can really move. If that shot becomes really consistent then it's going to be lights out. I agree 100% that his office is going to be the Dirk elbow.

Nothing dumber than overreacting to one poor shooting game in basketball, even moreso under those conditions.

His first game in summer league was an eye-opener to me for how much he's going to impact things defensively. I was more encouraged for his immediate impact and future after that game, not less. His incredible reach, athleticism, and ability to switch and close on the perimeter is going to make a huge impact on team defense once we figure out how to use hkm and his teammates figure out how to play with him. .

Agreed. I also forgot to mention that it looks like he's going to draw tons of fouls. He length just gets you out of position so easily. And I know he struggled a bit from the line yesterday but I think he's going to be very good over the long haul.

The real attention getter to me was how these otherwise freakishly tall men were overwhelmed/intimidated by his length. We're talking 6'10" guys who all of a sudden feel short for the first time. Eventually people will either drive into his body more or give it up more quickly to try to mitigate that somewhat, but until people get used to playing against him it's going to be a novelty even for NBA players.

Agreed re the fouls. It will be interesting to see how they call things with him early on, whether he gets the star treatment from the jump, but typically skinny guys like him are going to get some calls on contact that big hulking guys won't.
