According to 538's RAPTOR ratings, which measures a players overall value for the year (offense and defense), you're correct as Simmons was 38th. Harden was #1 and, interestingly, Duncan Robinson was 20. Christian Wood was 50 as a part time player. That tells me that, even if the Rockets don't use that metric specifically, they do value statistical measurements and clearly statisticians like Robinson more than the average fans and Simmons less.

76ers roster is better but basically the same teams in terms of expected performance. Best case is a second round playoff loss.

Simmons and Harden strike me as similar in one very important regard, I don't see either being the leader of a playoff team. They are both regular season tarzans and post season janes. If Simmons is the best you can do then take it because at least he's younger but he's not a good fit with Wall. I think you do that trade because you think you can find another team enamored with Simmons. I'd still personally prefer the Heat package and, candidly, it makes more sense for James as well. The Heat can still have enough players to win with Butler being the playoff alpha. The 76ers will have to rely on playoff James and that's never a good thing.

I agree. The more I think about it the Heat's package is going to help us win now and in the future.

Simmons may change as he is still young, especially if he has good coaching. Dirk was a post season Jane, too, until he wasn't.

If Wall can keep hitting about 38% on catch and shoot threes, he could be ideal to pair with Simmons. Simmons gives you an elite playmaker when Wall is out and you can afford to play Wall fewer minutes with Simmons in to run the offense.

Dallas is going to be one of the best teams in the West for a while. Simmons seems like an ideal person to matchup against Luka.

Just need another D&3 wing like a Reddick/Green type. Or what Gordon gave a couple years ago.

Not true. Common media trope disproven by almost every statistical measure. Outside of that bizarre "We Believe" Warriors playoffs, Dirk delivered.

As for Simmons, I think he's a fraud. He lacks the most important skill in the game and as his physical attribute decline (through age or injury) he'll be an anchor. Rockets would be better served looking elsewhere or salvaging the relationship.

Couple sources have also said deal with 76ers for Simmons was close but his agent effed it up. I presume that means a deal with the 76ers is dead, which isn't good from a leverage standpoint with Miami.

I don't think Morey would ever stop pushing for a move he thought would help his team become better. Certainly not because an agent was a dumbass. He's obviously worked with Landmark and Rich Paul for over a decade.

I don't see Toronto happening. They aren't a contender with James less Siakam and other players. That's not good for them or James. The Celtics could be interesting. Brown would be the best player we could get outside Simmons, but they don't have much left after him to offer. If we are enamored with recent draft picks then maybe. I personally like Nesmith. Best shooter in the draft.

Guessing Toronto is moving assets, not taking Harden. They have VanVleet and Lowry. They just gave FVV a big extension.
