I would say the entire team came out with no effort in game 4 and 5 of this Lakers series as a recent example. There is game 6 against the Spurs a few years back as well that followed the same pattern. I guess we could debate whether that constitutes a team quitting on their coach but it is certainly something that needs to be addressed.

I kinda feel for Pringles. He was so good for those mid-2000s Suns teams because it was filled with fiery guys who didn't need a ton of pushing to be competitive. Since then, he's been put in situations where he a) had very little say in his team's makeup and strategy, and b) had guys that were either pretty lowkey individuals or were primadonnas.

I feel like we'll never really know just how much of the failures are his fault.

I think it had more to do with 3 and 5 than anything

I don't want to re-post the entire article from The Athletic since it is behind the paywall, but Iko pretty much draws the conclusion that Fertitta disrespected Dantoni on multiple occasions which led to his departure. Apparently Morey was the one that was disappointed he would not be returning.

Those are some very self-aware quotes from Tillman. I guess you don't become a billionaire without knowing where your expertise are. Good to see that he will let the basketball people do their thing.

I'm not so sure it is an excuse. To me it is much worse to have people saying that you quit than to just get beat while showing reasonable effort. We absolutely got out-coached and out-played by a more talented team but something didn't look right in games 4 and 5 and it isn't the first time we have seen that.

Either way it sucks to have another lackluster exit to the playoffs but that is the life of being a sports fan from Houston.

Rockets need to get out of their recycle coaching malaise and find someone who looks like the next big thing.

Westbook's contract is bad but somehow Blake's is worse. Russ at least has bursts of athleticism. That is not something Griffin has anymore.

Griffin's 2019 season was 25p/8r/5a on 46/36/75 shooting in 75 games played.

Griffin's contract:
2021: 36mm
2022: 38mm (player option)

Westbrook's contract:
2021: 41mm
2022: 44mm
2023: 47mm (player option)

Griffin's knee surgery this year was the same thing Zion had. If his rehab goes good and he can return to his 2019 form and health, he would be a great pickup. Teams would at least have to respect him outside the 3pt line. Plus a Griffin/Harden PnR game would be pretty fun to watch.

Griffin's stats are empty calories at this point. He's not a winner. If I were the rockets I wouldn't touch him.

True. And it might come down to fit, but Russ has more playoff experience (albeit doesn't perform well in clutch situations) has a motor and is still elite in transition. To me going from CP3 to Russ to Griffin is a downgrade to downgrade move. And it's not like Griffin will address the problem of going up against the bigger teams in the west. At best it's a second round appearance assuming he stays healthy. I think it's worth it for the rockets to at least give it another go and make some other peripheral tweaks. Morey went all in with small ball. He should at least give it a full season IMO. Will be interesting to see who he chooses as the new coach.
