Biggest question to me is who loses more minutes to Covington...House or BMac?

House has been generally terrible until last night so I would imagine it is him. McLemore is one of the few guys on our roster shooting the 3 well.

I'm gonna wait and see if we make another move before i judge the trade. I'm guessing they are either trying to get a big that can spread the floor or an athletic guy that costs far less than Clint.

Clint was an exciting guy to watch play at times. But other times he seemed absolutely clueless out there.

As far as Covington goes, he's gonna be a huge upgrade defensively.

Clint was always a love/hate relationship. He just couldn't seem to get over the hump. Last year in the playoffs he completely disappeared, and so far this year he has had his ups and downs. I will be interested to see who Morey adds via trade or buyout market to fill this big man role. Have been curious for some time if you could plug in an average 5 on this team and his game is auto-elevated due to Russ and Harden. If so, it would even further legitimize this trade.

Morey wanted a guy like Covington at the beginning of the season, he was widely reported to be chasing Iggy for quite some time too (Memphis asking price too high). Gotta have somebody who can defend the LeBrons and Kawhi's of the world. That isn't House or B-Mac.

No one is more H-Town than GG. I really hope he can find his way back in to a Rockets uniform one day.

He's always been a favorite of mine long before this stint in Houston. He's not a perfect player by any stretch, but his love for HTown covers a multitude of flaws. I agree, hopefully he comes back soon.

What on earth will we do against the Lakers if we don't have at least one playable center
The same thing the Warriors did for years, trot a big white guy out there and shoot 3s.

The NBA has been shifting away from the need for a high-caliber all-star center for quite a while now. I think Morey will bring in a big, but this recent spell of small-ball is here to stay. Plus, in the playoffs that bench is going to shorten up quite a bit.

Russ
Harden
Covington
House
Tucker

Gordon
McLemore
Rivers
Sefolosha
Acquired big* - assuming its a better option than Chandler or Hartenstein

I'm not going to complain. If we were winning like I thought we would be at the start of the season, I would be yelling not to fix what ain't broken, but boy is it broken.

Fertita's pocketbook checks in as one of the winners. At least we didn't have to ship off Betts and Price to get under the luxury tax.

I like Capela. He's easy to root for. However I don't think we were going to get by the big dogs with him. Hopefully going all in on small ball will work.

No chance Bell actually plays much right?

He's taken like 8 career 3 pointers or something.

Imagine him and Harden in the same lockerroom. They can swap stories about Khloe Kardashian.

That's not what he's here for. He's a rim protector, alley oop, putback type athlete.

Quote:

This being Houston, there was a financial component to the deal as well it took Houston out of the luxury tax, and likely makes it easier for the Rockets to stay under next season as well. The Rockets cut an impressive $6 million from their cap number this season, or potentially more if Capela had earned $1.5 million in incentive bonuses. The Rockets, in fact, could add another player making $5.7 million or less into the deal and still stay below the tax line. Houston also has two open roster spots to pursue talent in the buyout market. Houston also generated three small trade exceptions $3,595,333 for Capela, $2,564,733 for Nene, and $1,620,564. Getting Nene off their books wipes away a rare offseason botch by the Houston front office, when the league disallowed using the contract as a $10 million trade exception.

Bell could be a useful small ball 5.

We can't afford Tristan, so I'd be surprised if it was him.

I hope not, but I'm not so sure about that. Unless you think picking up Kevon Looney is going to make the difference.

I would absolutely take Looney if the price is right. GSW seem to be in asset acquisition mode after dealing Burks and Robinson. Maybe flip the 2nd rounder from ATL and another piece for him.

They've developed Looney and got him on the friendliest of deals. They're not moving him (especially for cheap).

I could be wrong, but from what I have heard in recent days they need to move him or make other smaller moves to get under the lux tax
