the idiotic part of all this is that this should be a big mistake by the Chinese propagandists. The demand for NBA basketball in China will not be able to be overcome by simply trying to shut off the supply. The media is also taking quotes from the new Brooklyn Nets owner, one of the cofounders of Alibaba, and presenting them as being unbiased. Like its not his goal to take market share in China from the Rockets, give me a ****ing break.

So this tweet has turned into a huge issue. All Twitter is talking about right now and not just NBA twitter. It will be interesting to see how the next few days play out. Apparently Harden just apologized for Morey's comments...

I'm sorry but asking for existing agreements to be respects, for democracy, for suffrage, isn't being separatist.

It's amazing how Joe turns supporting people who want to be free as such a stab in the back to all mainland Chinese people.

It all comes back to the almighty dollar. The Rockets are big in China. Harden is big in China. Tillman knows it and so does the rest of the franchise. I don't have any qualms over what Morey said in his tweet and he is entitled to that opinion, hell he's probably right, but he has way too many eyeballs on his account and thats the problem. Morey sure as hell shouldn't lose his job over this, but he is probably going to have to decide whether he wants to swallow his pride and apologize (already did) and wait for this to blow over, or take a stand. I think the former is much more likely.

I tend to agree with this. I have no problem with the content of what Morey said but he should have known better. He isn't new here and he knows how big the Rockets are in mainland China.

I hope it doesn't cost him his job, and I don't think it should, but Morey needs to know his audience better.

He actually did not seem to really apologize (which I found interesting), but the NBA and China want people to think he did and the media is not savvy enough to read critically what they are reporting about.

I'm not happy about this situation, and I hope Morey doesn't end up fired, but I'll unfortunately understand if he does. You mess with a billionaire's bottom line in a negative way and you generally don't keep your job. But Tillman better take into consideration the backlash at home from fans, media, politicians, etc before he does such a thing.

The hypocrisy is on another level here, I hope everyone is paying attention. Right now the story is just about what an employee tweeted out, people can draw all the conclusions they want about whether this is about the employee vs the person, but the second he gets fired it grows exponentially. The NBA has by and large been able to keep their image clean recently compared to the unrest with the NFL, that could change overnight with what happens to Morey.

This situation is especially interesting and will be worth following as preseason gets started here soon. I do think it's blown over one way or another by the start of the season.
