That **** just holding his arm up and strutting in front of our bench. Always thought Terry looked like he was ready to fight them

He did fight them. He shut the cocky ****er up, jumper after jumper.

Then he hit the dagger in lebrons face in game 6. Hours

Hard to forget the most impressive NBA title ever won by a team in Texas.

I wish Cuban would've kept that team together. They just had to go after Dwight Howard. Ugh

It was the last NBA title won by a team not formed by superstars collaborating together.

It was truly a team with one superstar (Dirk).

They will probably be the last team to win as a total, pure team, as opposed to guys banding together, especially with the new salary cap rules.

Did you just lump the Spurs 2013-2014 championship team into the Heat/Warriors/Cavs group of Bought, Not Built?

The Spurs title over the heat was later and it was not because of superstars banding together.

Also the new CBA rules make it harder to build a super team not easier so it is more likely to have one elite center piece and more of a whole team concept built around him like the Mavs did that year. Especially once the current super teams fall apart.

He did indeed. Not to mention GSW the year before last was all through the draft.

Eff it, I can't help myself.

38 year old Duncan
37 year old Ginobili
32 year old Parker
22 year old Kawhi (who wasn't even being regarded as a top tier player until he absolutely demoralized LeBron in the finals)

NOT TO MENTION we were back and forth trying to decide who to start between BORIS DIAW AND TIAGO SPLITTER.

^^^^^^^

Let that last part sink in for a minute. Diaw or Splitter was our choice of who to start next to 38 year old Duncan.

That Spurs roster is definitely better and deeper than the one the Mavs had. Neither is necessarily superstar laden.

TP being 32 at tail end of prime still put up 16 and 6 and made all star team. TD put up 15 and 10. Manu had about the same year statistically as he had the previous 3 seasons prior. Kawhi averaged 16 and 7 and was playing like one of the best two way players in the league by the end of the season.

Both were worthy champions.

"Definitely" better? No. Not definitely. Although I would tend to lean towards the Spurs roster being better between the two.

But that's not the point of the argument.

This dillweed said the 10-11 Mavericks team was the last group to win who wasn't a super team. He also said they were the last group not made up of all-stars teaming up to chase rings.

Both of those statements are garbage.

San Antonio's top 4 were all drafted and developed. Our "best player" was a 32 year old Tony Parker, who was finishing up his 14th NBA season and the last one where he made an all-star or an all-nba squad.

Hell, if you REALLY want to get into it, neither Jason Kidd or Tyson Chandler spent their primes in Dallas, so saying Dallas was the last true homegrown champion is just silly.

I'm just glad we got ours. It was the perfect year for redemption, especially against that particular Heat team

That team went 16-5 in the playoffs while going up against Aldridge, Kobe, Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Lebron/Wade/Bosh

That was an amazing run by any metric. You're typically not going to play against that much talent along the way.

Same which I think is the big reason for the drop off in activity here for Dallas. Such a relief when that came we felt like we can finally move on in our life.

I think the drop of in activity was when Cuban wouldn't pay Tyson and broke up a championship team and Dallas slipped back into the world of mediocrity.

Spurs team assembled:

Tiago: Draft
Duncan: Draft
Kawhi: Draft
Ginobili: Draft
Parker: Draft
CoJo: Draft
Green: Waived D-League player signed for minimum
Diaw: MLE Free agent
Patty: Min-Salary D-League player
Beli: Room Exception free agent

Built, not bought

Dallas:

Dirk: Draft
Terry: Trade involving all-star and 1st rounder pick
Marion: Part of major 4-team trade involving multiple all-stars
Kidd: Part of major 7-player, 2 1st round pick trade
Chandler: Part of major 3-team trade
Stevenson: Part of major 8-player trade
Haywood: Part of major 8-player trade
Barea: Draft

Mavs were built as more of a Super Friends team than that Spurs.

I accept Cuban's excuse that the new CBA was the reason for it.

Mavs' title and Spurs' 2014 title were both impressive. Dirk was clearly the best single player out of both teams at the time. Kawhi wasn't Kawhi yet, but you could see what was ahead. Duncan and Manu were past their primes, but still very good. Parker hadn't dropped off yet. Still really good.

Again, Dirk was great. There was a big drop-off from him to the number 2 guy (there really was no #2). Kidd was way past his prime, physically. But still a good defender and open 3 shooter.

I think people forget how deflating it was for the Mavs to lose Caron Butler for the 2010-2011 season. He was supposed to have been Dirk's sidekick. The rest of the team really had to come together. Carlisle did a great job.

Was in Vegas during that game (bet on Mavs to win that game).

Everyone in the casino within range of a TV stopped to watch with about 3 min left. About 95% of the people there cheering for the Mavs as they hated the Heat by then.

Pretty sure the 2014-15 Golden State Warriors were the last team. Unless you consider Shaun Livingston a superstar signing.
