What sort of money is George Hill going to get this offseason? He's a competent starter who still gets along with the team (a year or two ago, there was a pic floating around of a team paintball game, and George Hill was randomly in it).

He's going for a max contract, and he's going to get close to it. We can't afford George Hill (or any good PG) who isn't willing to take less money to team up with Kawhi.

So much next year depends on whether Murray is expected to be the starter. If he is, then we probably pitch in a little extra for Mills to come off the bench and find the next Andre Miller-style seasoned vet who will take the min to be a steady mentor and third in the rotation. Point guard becomes a very cheap position (even with TPs salary, which i assume will be spread over several years) and we can spend some money elsewhere.

Boris was the unsung hero behind those beautiful 2013 & 2014 offenses. We miss that Boris a lot, though I didn't mind letting him walk, because he was in the middle of his late career plummet.

PG is the top priority this offseason. Every good team has an elite one. Piece-mealing it with Murray, Mills and a broke TP isn't going to cut it. I don't think George Hill is even going to cut it.

We need CP3 or Lowry. We can't even run a coherent offense right now. Manu at 40 is our best PG at moving the offense.

That's the thing though, if the Spurs think that Murray is soon to be an elite PG, and they've signaled that he might be, bringing in an established elite point guard at ~30mm is a bad move. It all comes down to that evaluation, and it's definitely a roll of the dice either way.

Option A: your elite guard gets 32 starting mpg and Murray gets some mixture of second string time running point and first string time at off guard. This way he develops slower than he ought to, but still enough that he'll command a high salary when his rookie contract ends and the spurs still have a 34 year old at the same position commanding 30mm+.

Option B: your 30mm dollar man plays fewer minutes or out of position. This is a huge waste of max money on a scarce resource, and you still have to deal with the growing pains of a young point guard getting tons of minutes.

Like I said, they need to decide if Murray is the guy. If he is, that money is better spent on a swing man who can make plays or a versatile power forward. Basically strengthening the roster around the core of Kawhi and a playmaker point guard pulling in less than a million a year. If not, then drop the coin on an all-star point guard, cut depth to make the room, and either let Mills walk or relegate Murray to the deep bench/Austin two-step.

It wouldn't be the first time the Spurs rolled the dice on a raw scoring point guard several years into a franchise superstar's tenure. They got 15 years and four titles out of the last one.

Parker had the advantages of peak Duncan and I really good ballhandler in Manu.

What you are asking of Murray is unrealistic. He might grow up quick but he is at least 2-3 years out from being an elite PG best case scenario. Not even Parker and Kawhi developed as fast as you are asking if you give him the starter reigns tomorrow.

We all know CP3 will have to take less money to leave the Clips, so I'm working off that assumption. A four year 25 million deal is about what I see the Spurs offering CP3. That gives Murray 2-3 years to learn under a great one and work on his shot and see if he is the king term solution. I completely disagree that playing back up minutes and learning under Paul would stunt his development. If 3 or 4 years from now he is ready then you let him start or finish games like Mills did this year as Paul finishes out his contract.

Most importantly this doesn't waste 2-3 years of Kawhi's prime while hoping Murray becomes elite.

It would be very foolish to start Murray next year regardless of what CP3 does. I don't even see that as a realistic scenario. There is no way he will be an all-star level PG next year, which is what is needed to win big in the NBA today.
Ulrich

I'm not sold on Murray being elite. I'm just saying that if the staff thinks he will be, I'll be surprised if they are willing to commit long term max money to start someone ahead of him for several years. I think they're a lot more likely to pay for play making and defensive help around him or bring in a steady vet to start for 1-2 years at 20-25 mpg.

Most people think that was a career ender for a guard his age. Never say never, but the odds are not good.

TBH, career ender is probably the best thing for the Franchise.

Spread his salary from 15mm next year to 5mm for each of the next three years.

GS is complaining about a dirty illegal sceeen set by Dedmon on Curry last game. It was dirty but GS complaining about an illegal screen is pretty rich.

These games are tough to watch without Kawhi. I have a better appreciation of his dominance for sure. I guess we can hope for a miracle.

I'd love to get the W, but I don't really care about the outcome. Just gonna sit back and take in what might be Manu's last game. Even though he won't win a title, he would still go out playing great basketball.

You guys are tougher than me. I gave up on this crappy series after Leonard went down and the warriors came back to take game 1. I can't blame the other team for taking advantage, but I have no doubt in my mind that it would be at worst 2-2 with healthy Leonard. It pains me to say it, but the best we can hope for is the Cavs winning the title. **** golden state and zaza.

I would add to that watching the Spurs play without Parker should give you some appreciation for what he brought to the table as well.

Also, don't discount the loss of LaMarcus Aldridge.

He was 'not likely to play' yesterday. But in the past, they have usually come out and given his status before this point in the day.

I agree. I don't think he should play, but he has a lot of pride. He's 4 games away from the finals. I can understand if he wants to play.

Did he call out his own dirty teammate, Draymond Green, for calling Olynyk dirty?

You never know.

Golden State is one injury away from being in the same boat as us...

No one thought the Sox had a chance in '04 either...

Actually, Golden State is about 3 injuries away from being in the same boat.

If I were Pop I wouldn't play Pau and I'd give his minutes to Dedmon to send him a message.
