I bet Pop, RC and their buddy Sam Presti went in together to send a video package to the league about it. Those fake fouls were a ~30 point difference in the series. That's pretty serious.

To piggyback on your discussion, I think you will see both teams play it pretty vanilla tonight and even in Game 2. Pop usually doesn't make wholesale adjustments until Game 3 or the Spurs lose a game.

As far as lining up defensively goes, I do think the Spurs going "small" and letting Leonard guard the 4-man (Anderson) is a key component in slowing down their P&R attack. Allows Kawhi to play the switch and the Spurs can avoid those cheap fouls fighting over the screen. However, I'm not sure I like the idea of Kawhi on Capela and LMA being stretched all the way out of the paint. Will make it tough to rebound the ball.

I think the Spurs can and will utilize Simmons in this series. He struggles to shoot the long ball but he can really help out defensively and he should be able to attack the rim at will on the other side of the floor. I think he could be key for the Spurs this series.

I also think Dedmon can help out defensively a ton. He's got good lateral quickness for a big man and if they go away from the Anderson screen and elect for Capela/Nene, Dedmon at least has the footspeed to stay in front of Harden.

This series really is fascinating though with all of the potential strategy involved. Be interesting to see who gets the minutes.

I think Dedmon plays a bigger role in this series, too.

I don't mind Aldridge on Ariza, but putting Kawhi on Capela is a waste of his talent and could also end up causing him to commit some cheap fouls.

The interesting thing is that Pop rarely uses Kawhi at 4 anymore. He seems like the ideal small ball four, but Pop just rarely does it.

One thing that will be interesting to me:

Pop generally doesn't crash the offensive glass, but Houston is poor at defensive rebounding. Will Pop crash to take advantage? I don't think so because he will be too devoted to stopping transition.


Dedmon played poorly against Houston this year, but he did get progressively get better as the year went along.
