I haven't spent a bunch of time figuring out all the details, but the Warriors only have Durant, Thompson, and Green under contract next year. That's 62mm. They'll have to re-sign Curry, who was criminally underpaid at 12mm, and fill out a roster with 9 more players in a year when everyone will be looking to get a big paycheck with the cap going up. Great time to need one piece, bad time to need 3-5 solid players.

That Curry contract is what made the whole thing work, so it's possible that the Warriors' insurmountable talent advantage may be nearing it's end.

All depends how profitable the team is and how willing they are to pay the repeater luxury tax.

The Warriors paid tax last year, but not this year or any other year. So they have another year or two to worry about the repeater tax.

This will be the problem with Durant: The Warriors don't have his Bird rights. He signed a 1y deal. So to keep him and pay him, they would need to use the non-Bird exception to keep him, which is 120% of his 17 salary. Or 31mm rather than 36mm.

Warriors would have to let Iggy and LIvingston walk.

Now you have 106mm tied into:

C Damian Jones
PF Green
SF Durant/Looney
SG Klay/McCaw
PG Curry

Seven players and everyone else is gone. Sure, they will get coattail riders like David West, but that is going to be difficult to fill out the rest of the team. McCaw is the only real rotational player outside the big 4 and he is getting 14mpg in the playoffs.

NOBODY on the Spurs played 30 tonight.

Ok? What does that matter? Should Simmoms have gotten 30+ or not?

Defense was really disappointing tonight. ( captain obvious, I know). But it's all for nothing if we're going to shoot 30% from 3 and 50% from the line.

If I am being honest, Kawhi didn't perform tonight. 16? I could do that from my couch. He has to take over each and every game -- it's the PLAYOFFS.

Can't help but wonder if they'll just pay the repeater tax and not GAF since they'll be in a new arena in a couple of years and will be better equipped to pay. But damn that tax is nuts after a couple years.

Cavs paid like 55mm in tax last year. it adds up really quick.

Last night's defense wasn't Game 1-bad, but it was bad. I found it interesting that we played so much small ball. Houston got to the paint with ease with no bigs to contest their shot. If they are getting easy two point buckets and hitting from the outside, there's no way we can beat them. But at the end of the day, I'll gladly take a 2-2 series at this point after what happened in Game 1. Go Spurs Go!

I pretty much expected to lose game 4, honestly. (Not that I'm not disappointed with how we played.)

Before the series started, I expected it to be 2-2 after 4 with each team splitting at home and trading blowouts. So far I've been spot-on.

Figured game 5-7 would all be close. Still thinking Spurs win in 7.

What sucks is the winner will be playing a well-rested Warriors team that's only played 8 playoff games.

They also had guys hitting outside shots which pulled our bigs out of the paint. We weren't able to have Aldridge or Gasol essentially playing a one man zone like we did in game three. We'll see if Houston's role players can produce on the road in the next game.

We have little margin for error without Parker. While Murray played much better this game, we still greatly missed the veteran PG play to control the game. We played way too fast which played into Houston's hands on both ends of the floor.

I will lean towards them just paying whatever tax they have to pay and not giving a f****. According to articles like this one, the Warriors are apparently a massive cash cow right now and the cow is just putting out more and more milk everyday. Posters hoping for the GSW superteam to be broken up soon primarily because the ownership doesn't want to pay taxes, I wouldn't hold my breath. Your hopes probably need to more that player egos screw them up, somebody like Green finally implodes, or something along those lines.

Houston teed off on the drives to the paint when Pop put in Lee and four wings. It was a layup line after that. Appears Pop would rather go down swinging with David Lee playing center than give Dedmon some run. Idiot.

Only problem is, that means more of Gordon. While Pop plays two bigs...

I'm good with more Gordon. He's either hitting or he isn't. He hits shots completely covered and he misses wide open shots.

But it also means that Sam Dekker and Trez Harrell are going to get minutes.

Nene couldn't play a lot of minutes, but he played hard and was a big positive when he was in the game.

Gordon is a great shooter, but he is not a great player. He isn't contributing much else besides his shooting. Put Green or Simmons on him tight and keep him from getting the ball. He was already playing about 30mpg. It isn't like he is going to become a 40mpg player because of this.

Dekker and Harrell are big negatives for the Rockets.

I just wanted to let you guys know that Nene's absence the rest of this series/playoffs is far more debilitating than Parker's... At least that's what Rockets fans believe. Pretty much sums up their fanbase. So dumb.
