Honestly wouldn't be mad at Dirk if he went to the warriors.

Yea, but Dirk doesn't want to go to GS or Cleveland or anywhere else, at least I don't think he does. I think he'd rather just stay in Dallas, so our dilemma is do we let him stay in Dallas or tell him we are starting over?

I want him to stay, even though I know this is the time we should start tanking/rebuilding.

Seems like Parsons will most likely leave with us targeting Conley and Whiteside. If we could get both of those (BIG IF) then thats a solid starting five

ESPN Insider has Whiteside on its list of 7 most overrated free agents. Don't think I'm allowed to quote the article, but here is a summary of the highlights:

-Whiteside almost led the league in goaltending calls last year, which happens when a player is too eager to block shots. His seeming desire for blocks at all costs makes him bite on pump fakes and can actually make it easier for opponents to score on him.
-Speaking of, the Heat actually allowed MORE points per possession when Whiteside was on the floor last year than when he wasn't
-Offensively, he's apparently one of only 9 guys in NBA history to play more than 2,000 minutes in a season but only record 30 or fewer assists, which suggests he doesn't make his teammates better

On one hand, I don't see how the Mavs' analytics guys WON'T see right through him, but on the other, he strikes me as the perfect candidate for them to overpay to get. We shall see, I suppose.

I hope Dirk goes to GS or Cle or SA. He's done everything he needs to for Dallas, and more. Chase a ring on a team where you can comfortably play 15-20 min a game and let the Mavs move on from this purgatory.
Not ****ing San Antonio.

Not crazy to think we'll get one of Batum, Conley, and Whiteside. Good thing is that Whiteside is supposed to decide tomorrow, which would have to at least make Conley rethink staying in Memphis. It'll be an interesting 24 hours...

Pipe dream...
PG- Conley
SG- Matthews (hopefully fully healthy)
SF- Batum
PF-Dirk
C- Whiteside

Bench: JJ, Harris, Anderson, *insert relatively athletic/rebounding Center*, *insert 3&D SF.

I'm getting more and more confident that we are going to land Whiteside. From what I'm seeing, the Heat may not want to max him. I think we are going to get him. If we get him, then hopefully that lures Conley over.

MacMahon at ESPN is reporting there is no chance Parsons returns.

I am pretty happy about that. His knee issues have left him with little explosiveness, and I've always thought he can be lazy defensively. At worst, Batum is a lateral move, and I actually believe he is a little better than Parsons... Hopefully CP gets healthy, and is successful at his next stop.

Thank God. That dude was way overpaid. He was definitely not worth what we were paying him. I'm glad he is leaving.

Also glad Parsons isn't returing. He sucked.

I would ahve liked to see what that mavs team before the ill fated rondo trade could have done. Parsons was running the offense and creating for everyone, and we were scoring and beating good teams.

That said, he is definitely not good enough to be the best player on a champ team, and probably not a 2nd best player.

I saw some ridiculous article on espn by TrueHoopsTv (whatever the hell that is, I guess they don't have actual analyst/columnists anymore)
They wanted to list him as a top five 3 and D player...wtf? He is at best a decent defensive player. To me, 3 and D means excellent defense and knocking down open 3's.

And BTW, I would have had no issue maxing out Parsons, knee injury or not. Dude wanted to stay, and last season he proved he could work hard to come back and be a team player. After the second injury, word is that legit concerns by front office staff finally convinced Cuban it wasn't worth maxing out Parsons

Is this a safe place for a depressed Mavs fan to be? In a weird way I am happy we didn't sign Whiteside bc I could see him checking out once he got his big pay day; on the other hand, it is just another strike out by the front office in FA.

This is awful. I honestly don't even know how we can spend all of our money now. If he wants to stay, just give Dirk the max to thank him for taking a huge paycut the last few years.

I'm not saying I can't see how we can get players I want. I literally mean I don't see how we can use all of Cour cap space unless we just way overpay for ****ty players.

Just give Dirk whatever the true max deal for him actually is. Our FO fell on their face once again.

I think it's time to let Dirk go (or almost force him to sign with a contender) and just blow the whole thing up. Cuban and Donnie need to start drafting young guys because free agency is just not working for this team. Honestly, there is really no core here to sell free agents on. Dirk is one or two years away from retirement. Other than money, what is there to sell?

Sadly, making good draft picks has not been Donnie and Cuban's strength

The Mavs are basically out of the 2016-2017 playoff picture at this point. I'm pretty sure they know it also. I suppose they could overpay Howard and bring back D. Williams then pretend like it matters in 2016. That doesn't do anything for you either short or long term though.

Trade Carlisle for a first rounder and tank for back to back top 3 draft picks. Of course if Carlisle is willing to stay and coach rookies for the next 5 years then you keep him. I would also max out Dirk to pay him back.

I agree that we will miss the playoffs next season, though I thought we would win about 35 games this year, so what do I know? I'm pretty sure that Rick has said he doesn't want to be here for a rebuild, so trading him might not be a bad idea if things really go south. Next year's draft is supposed to be strong, so it will be a good year to be in the lottery.

Let Dirk do what he wants - leave for a contender or sign for 2yr $60mil here and retire as a Mav.

I like this. I've wanted a rebuild for two years, and next years draft will hopefully provide a great chance to do that. I will be in the seats watching us suck for two years and I'll be fine with it.

I'm always of the mindset to never give out a max deal in free agency unless the guy you're after is a multiple all star going into or before his prime.

I agree. I haven't been intrigued by the Mavs trajectory the last few seasons. There was a brief moment after the Rondo trade when I was talking myself into the Mavs. That lasted about 3 weeks. I appreciated watching Dirk and Carlisle fight it out to the bitter end but it was obvious they were first round flame outs at best the last few seasons. In the meantime the 76ers will have Simmons, Saric, Noel, Okafor, Embiid and capspace for three years of losing. So? The Mavs will have JJ Barrea, overpaid Wes Mathews, crickets and capspace for three years of first being first round cannon fodder.

Hinkie gamed the system and built something. The Lakers inadvertently gamed the system by maxing out broken Kobe. Now they have Brandon Ingram and D'Angelo Russell to show for it. The Mavs can blend the two styles by maxing old Dirk for 2 years and grabbing back to back top 3 picks. There is also an opportunity presenting itself now that the 76ers and Lakers look to be moving up a notch (higher lottery) I am not sure who the biggest tanking challenge would be besides Brooklyn.

This is when you're truly tested as a Mavs fan- pledging to stick around despite all hope being gone.

Does anyone have faith in Donnie to work us out of this mess? Why?

I'm hoping for a complete tear down this season. Why win more than 15 games if you don't have to? We've seen free agency play out the same way for how many seasons now?

Trade anyone you can other than Anderson and Powell for a draft pick.
Take on any bad contracts you can that come with a draft pick, assuming they roll off in 2 years or so.
Churn the Legends roster hard, and look at so many players that you might find one or two gems.

I do not have faith in Donnie and haven't for a few years. I thought it was very odd that the scouting director the Mavs hired went straight back to Houston after maybe 3 months on the job.

Dirk + Carlisle + 7 guys from the YMCA are too good to only win 15 games, but I think we end up with 30ish wins and mid to late lottery. I do agree with taking on bad contracts that people are trying to clear if you can get draft picks back.

I'm waiting for someone to write a thinkpiece analyzing Cuban's Shark Tank negotiating style and what it means about his inability to close the deal with NBA free agents.
