Mavs need to win 2/4 to make the playoffs in my estimation. Magic number is 3 but it is questionable if Houston loses again given their schedule. However if the Mavs beat Memphis it is also questionable whether Memphis will win again. Injuries have really derailed their season. I think the game against Memphis on Friday is every bit as important as last nights game.

Looking ahead I'm also wondering about the San Antonio game to close out the season. It is likely (if not probable) that the Mavs won't see Kawahi, Aldridge, etc... which would give the Mavs a good chance to win if they still need that game. It's really coming down to the wire to find out which team gets swept by the Warriors.

Couple thoughts. I think its probable that the light has only recently come on for Anderson, but I wonder how much was Rick being stubborn about playing young player.
It's also very interesting that we have gone on a run since Parsons went out.

Since Anderson plays the same position, it's likely just fortuitous that as Parsons has been injured Anderson was pretty much your only go-to, and thus has gotten experience and improved. I think this stretch proves that he will be a reliable rotation player- especially tonight, going 19 and 10.

For Sunday against the Clips, I think you rest guys and go balls-out against the Jazz on Monday. Magic number for making the playoffa down to one

I was thinking that same thing about Parsons. I think parsons is a great player, and probably good enough to be a #2 player...but he is definitely not able to be your best player on a championship team.
Not sure what can be done though.

The most amazing thing about this weird late-season run is it's been done using an entirely different philosophy than they've used the rest of the season- they're playing such great defense that seems to have appeared purely out of thin air, like someone just flipped a switch. That's the genius of having a coach as great as Carlisle, who can not only put a new game mindset in place, but get the players to buy into it and see actual results from it

BTW, 16 straight seasons with a non-losing record, as of the win last night. Not bad

It's not surprising to me we play better without Parsons. He's an average NBA player, and we paid him top dollar. Same with Wes Matthews.

I really like what I've seen from Justin Anderson on this run. He's a freak athlete and if he can keep improving his overall game he'll be a good starter/borderline All-Star in the NBA. I hope he continues to improve over the years, as we have made poor free agency decisions and never build through the draft.

From a spurs fan, Carlisle is a GREAT coach. Any shortcomings on that team have to be with the players and by implication the front office.

Parsons and Matthews are solid players, but not good enough to build a title contender around. They need to be the second to fourth best players, so paying them max money has hamstrung the franchise. Shoulda let Houston crash and burn in their attempt to build a financially unworkable big 4 with lazy Harden and headcase Howard.

...and I was jealous of the Justin Anderson pick at the time, he looked like a solid player to me.

The sad thing is that Cuban will have to fire Carlisle if he ever decides to tank. He could give Carlisle a d-league roster and he'd ruin the plans by winning 37 games and narrowly missing the playoffs.

So...are we winning the final two games? I believe 6th is on the line, especially if Memphis loses the next two to LAC and GSW. Utah is a must-win, and we have a solid shot at beating s.a. since popovich will be resting players...

Yes, but hilariously, if we win one and lose one and Memphis losses both their remaining games, or we win out and they lose one, we grab the 6 seed.

Can't argue with this

Tonight is an obvious must-win- even if Pop sits all his starters on Wednesday, not sure we'd beat them.

I would also comfort myself with the fact that I think the Lakers beat the Jazz on Wednesday because Kobe doesn't want to go out a loser.

Win tonight and get the 6 seed (Memphis will lose to GS and likely lose to LAC).
Lose tonight but win on Wednesday and get the 8 seed.
Lose both... better hope that Minnesota or SAC beats Houston. Otherwise finish 9th in the West and hand Boston the 14th pick in the draft.

The last day of the season could be very interesting though. Rondo is on record saying that he will do whatever he can to keep Dallas out of the playoffs. I can't imagine that Sacramento plays hard against Houston. But San Antonio won't likely play their starters either. It's sad that my main rooting motivators are to not give Rondo the satisfaction or Boston a lottery pick.

For a team that most people wrote off before the season- having them finish DEAD LAST in the West- to make the 7th seed is awesome. So proud of these guys for not throwing in the towel when they very well could have

Playoffs!! 7th seed, with a decent shot at 6th, and I think 5th still in play if we win and Portland loses Wednesday, along with one more Memphis loss. Carlisle is a wizard.
