Harden signed a four year extension. A little surprised by that to be honest.

That seems to have come out of nowhere. Is this in addition to the 2 years he already has left?

Make it 3 of us...I figured he'd test the free agent waters in a couple of years when he's still not quite 29.

I can't figure Harden out. To me, he seems like a guy comfortable in his role as a local star, but he has never struck me as the kind of guy who is committed and hungry to win it all. He's happy being an all star and making money.

But this is good for us. We need to draft or find another superstar who has the fire to win. Someone who can drive the team and compliment James.

I still think the only way we will ever be a true contender again is if we get a stud PG.

According to Woj, no. Contract will take him through 2020.

It guarantees us 1 one year of James vs previous contract, allows him to opt out at the 10 year vet level in 3 years to get the super max. Good use of capspace

So it's basically a 1 year extension for a boatload of cash.

Well, he's never been accused of being the smartest guy in the NBA.

Yeah all those Spurs players who sign for less money so they can sign more guys are so stupid.

Key difference being they had a chance to win it all. The D'Antonio Rockets don't.

How am I talking about my ass? He didn't take less money did he? He still took the max deal. He just took it a year before the cap is going to it's maximum point. It's not like he is taking less money now so they can make another key signing.

Yeah, while there are some other things Harden could probably do on and off the court to help his team win, this isn't dumb. It provides some assurance for potential Rockets that their offensive focal point will remain and helps Houston manage their cap situation by signing a year before the cap goes up again.

Hard to say whether he's actually leaving much money on the table because his next deals will be signed at age ~30 and 34, whereas if he had let this one run out he would sign at age 28, 32, and potentially 36. He'll probably still command a pretty sweet deal at 34 that will take him to retirement, whereas he wouldn't be within shouting distance of the max signing at age 36.

It was important to lock him up for the long-term for stability purposes. I mean look at the Thunder right now, they lose Durant and now they either get Russ to extend or he is gone next year. All reports point to him either leaving next offseason or getting traded. Signing Harden takes care of things early and assures you won't be in limbo waiting on him to decide if he wants to stay here anytime soon.

I agree from the Rockets standpoint. No brainer for them. I was just questioning from Harden's perspective.

How is this a no brainier for rockets? It seems like this deal is pretty one sided in harden's favor. It just gets the rockets one extra year of harden. And they are paying him a **** load of cash to get that one extra year. And he will now be able to get supermax when he opts out.

I guess if you think it will make him want to stay when he opts out, then it's a good deal for Houston. Otherwise it seems like a great deal for harden. Or is there something that I'm missing?

I don't think you understand the deal. What you are saying would be true if the deal got the rockets another 3-4 years of harden. This deal only gets the rockets one extra year from what they had before (he will opt out before last year). And they pay a ton more to harden each year going forward in order to get that extra year.

Plus, if he's not hurt, there is no way he doesn't opt out before the last year on the deal. If he is hurt, then of course he will opt in, which is bad for the rockets.

"Ever since I stepped foot in Houston, there's been nothing but love and support from Les and (GM) Daryl Morey and the front office. It's truly like a home to me. I'm happy to be here another four years and a lot of great things are going to happen. It's been progress, it's been a buildup and the addition of our new signings and a couple of other pieces, some really good things are going to happen next year."

"This is home for me," Harden said. "Whatever it takes we try to build and find ways to get better and that's my focus and that's my priority."

Well, good for him I guess. He could have cashed in more next year and had a few years left on his deal so not sure why he didn't wait until next summer but sounds like both sides are happy with it.

Doesn't Harden have an absurd deal with Adidas too? I guess at some point, the extra millions are whatever, if you're happy where you are.

I doubt Durant is really gonna miss the extra millions he loses to Cali tax either

To the person that complained where Thon Maker was drafted, sport center just showed he had 10 points and 10 fouls tonight. Ouch!

I can live with that change. There are already things that happen in the last two minutes of a quarter that don't happen in the previous 10 (team foul count most notably. You could have 0 team fouls in the first 10 minutes, but the other team still shoots FTs on the 2nd foul in the last two minutes), so this change doesn't bother me.

Yea I think it is a positive step forward. It sounds like Silver didn't have enough support to eliminate it completely. This at least keeps teams from using the strategy at the end of each quarter.

Bev has started 173 games over the last 3 years. Apparently the Rockets think he is.
