That was one of his best articles I've ever read
quote:I sort of agree. The retro diary showed that he's still got it, which was central to his entire point that it might be better to go out a year early than a year too late. But he rambled too much about the many other side stories to that game. Those would make a good article by themselves, but they were out of place when the focus of the article was supposed to be Tim Duncan's future.quote:I felt like the retro diary was unnecessary and hurt what otherwise would have been one of his better articles. Personally, I would like for him to announce that next year will be his last year. That way opposing teams can pay tribute to him when he goes into their arena for the last time in his career. Much like the MLB did with Jeter

quote:For those that don't know the story, Duncan's mother died the day before his 14th birthday of cancer. She made each of her children promise to graduate from college, which is why Duncan stayed at Wake Forest all 4 years.
When I was at UNC, Duncan, Rasheed, and Joe Smith were the elite bigs in the ACC. They had a 4 way tie at the top with Virginia (Junior Burrough). Smith and Rasheed went pro, and Duncan stayed 4 years. Even then, that was unheard of.

Please don't retire Timmy.

Ditto to all this.

"I would be very surprised if he retired," said Antonio Daniels, Duncan's friend and former teammate with the Spurs. "As long as he's staying at a level where he feels like he's relevant and competing, I can't see it."
"He's not going to be like Kareem and go out on a big retirement tour," Daniels said, referring to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the Lakers Hall of Famer who retired at age 42. "He's going to wake up one morning and say, 'You know what? I don't have it anymore. I'm done.'"

If Tim does decide to come back I would expect him to sign another two year deal with year two being a player option. Would prevent the talk Antonio is talking about. He wouldn't want a one year deal-farewell tour. He would sign for two to keep people thinkin he might have another year.
