Lots of Spurs fans like Atlanta because their head coach was a well-liked assistant in San Antonio for 17 years. Coach Bud was the heir apparent in SA and his team is often referred to even by announcers as Spurs-East based on their style of play on both ends.

I've read and heard on TV that the city is actually supporting the Hawks this year and it's an incredibly tough ticket to get

Houston fan here. If or when the Rockets get knocked out, my top three would go:

1. SA (Parents lived there for two years and had season tickets back in the Gervin days, plus I love Duncan and the rest of the organization)
2. Chicago (Dad grew up in Chicago and somehow pulled some strings to get me to meet MJ during MJ's last season in a Bulls uniform)
3. Atlanta (Love watching them play, seems like a fun crowd, and Atlanta pro sports have had a lot of bad luck over the years)

Last team(s) I want to see win:
1. Clippers (Can't stand CP3, Blake or Doc)
2. Dallas (They're not out until they're out)
3. Memphis (Just don't care for Z-Bo or Tony Allen)

I don't know how anyone can have THAT much contempt for the Spurs. I see how people don't like Manu flopping, I guess I can see people complaining about Tim wanting every call, but other than that, I just don't see it.

It's a model franchise, with a class act coach and players. We don't start fights, we don't do finger guns after making three pointers, we don't dunk the ball and mean mug opposing crowds. We have a team full of guys who managed to stay humble after winning multiple championships.

Look at the list of showboating ********s that haven't won ****. THOSE are the kinds of players that I actively cheer against. I didn't have a problem with Houston until they got Harden and Howard, two of the most ridiculous idiots playing right now. I won't even mention that you signed Jason ****ing Terry. Not a lot to like on that team.

I used to hate the Mavs (during their Jason Terry years) but now they are my number two team to root for. Dirk was a one of kind talent all these years, and he managed to not be a total assclown about it. I respect that. I'm also a huge fan of Carlisle. What a professional.

A bunch of We's going on in this statement. I was unaware that there was a Texags poster who was also a San Antonio Spurs player.

But for real I'm a Mavs fan and I wouldn't mind seeing the Spurs win if the Mavs lose. But for some reason I keep rooting for GS to win. But this is only assuming the Mavs lose which is highly unlikely

The only teams I don't want to see win - LAC, Houston, Dallas. Clippers because they aggravate me, Houston because of the fans, and Dallas because Cuban and Dallas fans.

What was the point of posting this? You knew exactly what was meant.

But seriously, great insight. Thank you for noting that I am not, in fact, a professional basketball player. Post more zingers when you get a chance, Leno.

Spurs fan here:

I'd like to see Memphis (love their hard-nosed style of play), Atlanta (Spurs East), or Golden State (Steve Kerr....nuff said) win it all if SA is eliminated.

I don't believe I'm familiar with the one you speak of. But speaking of weak attempts at humor...

Harden has been good defensively this year, but still has lapses where he just stands around.

I'd kinda like to see Derrick Rose win it. I think LeBron will win the east though. Atlanta hasn't looked like the team from earlier in the year. From the west, I guess either San Antonio or Memphis. I don't really like Steve Kerr as a coach. Plus I really want Duncan and Pop to ****ing retire already.

FIFY. He's still not very good defensively... but it's also not his role on the team to be an outstanding defender.

Wrong. You're seeing what you want to see. The Rockets were 6th in defensive efficiency without Howard and Jones for most of the season. We basically had no rim protectors at all except Smith, who came off the bench and was prone to defensive lapses himself. We don't do have the record we had without Harden being good defensively. His defense did slip at the end of the year, as did his offense, however.

I'll be honest. I'm Spurs fan but not really an NBA fan. When the Spurs go out put me in the category of "I couldn't care less who wins." If the finals is a good match-up I might watch a game or two but it won't be a priority.

As long as it's not the Clippers (can't stand them) or the Mavericks (current playoff opponent), I'm OK with any other non-Rockets team winning it.

I've always liked the NBA, and have watched as much of every Finals as I could since 1977 (some games used to be shown via tape delay after the local news...the NBA used to be that low on the totem pole). I can usually find a team to root for/against in the Finals.

Here's my view as a Mavs fan. I respect the Spurs and what they've been able to accomplish, I just do not like them or root for them because they are the Mavs' main rival. To me, it is like a Red Sox/Yankee fan liking the other. Now, I don't think they respect each other, and I have respect for the Spurs, I just do not like them. Great team, organization, etc., but I just cannot root for them as a Mavs fan. I can objectively look at situations and believe they will win because they are the better team and I do that, but nothing inside me roots for them. By the way, Kahwi Leonard is my favorite player in the NBA and I would approve the Mavs trading the entire team for him.

I do like watching them because they play the game well, very simplistic, which is all you need in this game. They are a system team and that is why they've had sustained success. System and culture.

Now, as far as teams wanting them to win WHEN (haha) the Mavs get knocked out:

1) Golden State - I love Steph Curry and this team. I've been watching them actively for about 5 years since they drafted Curry because I loved watching him play at Davidson. I'm not a fan by any means, but I do really enjoy watching them play and watch them every time they are on national TV. I like the way they move the ball and get open shots, and knock them down, and I like the improved defense. They are just fun to watch and Steph Curry is a great guy. Kind of remind me of a team of underdogs (in the sense that Steph and Klay were passed up in the draft so much, Harrison Barnes is a great complement to them, and Bogut and bench are all overlooked).

2) Atlanta - Definition of team ball this season. More than the Spurs this season, and I mean this because look at their players. No stars. I mean, they had 4 All-Stars, but really, no standout stars. Spurs have Duncan and Parker and Leonard but the former two have stardom mainly off of reputation.

3) LAC - Another fun team that I enjoy watching. I am a big fan of CP3. He's a great guard, very passionate about the game, and a great leader. I love DJ and his defense in the middle, and Blake Griffin has put in work and improved tremendously in skill since he came in the league.

4) Chicago - I would like to see DRose come back and win one and shut everyone up. I think he would feel some closure too just in case he would get another injury and decide to walk away from the game.

5) Anyone else

Houston - Appreciate Harden and the way he plays, I just wish they had a coach that would implement a more fluid offense, because they have the potential to run one.

Spurs - You already have 5 in 15 years, you don't need another one.

I was 100% with you until your point #3. Chris Paul is a *****.

Even flops when refs touch him.

Like JJ Barea is strong enough to knock someone down.

He gets the respect he deserves.

Haha alright, I understand your distaste for his dramatics, but he is a great player in my eyes. Has he had any big flops this series against the Spurs? Not trying to prove a point, just genuinely interested.

None that are bad for him, but lots that would be bad by anyone else's standards. Histrionic reactions to incidental contract, cutting in front of people in transition and falling down, grabbing people and acting like he's the one getting grabbed, pushing people into screens while throwing his head back like he's getting pushed, etc. The usual gamut of BS non basketball plays that he always does. He got Kawhi called for an offensive foul in game one by falling down before Kawhi even got there. It looked like footage from a B movie fight scene.

Paul is one of my three least favorite players. He's incredibly gifted, but I can't enjoy watching someone who spends so much time and effort exploiting the refs. See also: James Harden, Dwyane Wade.
