When I think of NBA bigs, I typically think Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Shaq.. big centers that banged the boards and lived in the paint.

Now you have "bigs" like K. Love and Bosh that wanna shoot 3s or play the perimeter? Why has the game transformed to this? What's happened to Centers playing the way they once did?

Kevin Love hit 8, 3-pointers tonight

8 3-pointers are worth more points than 8 dunks.

Zone defense.
Obi Wan Ginobili

it probably happened around the time scorers were handed free throws for stepping in the gym and defenders were called for flagrants for preventing easy buckets.

Agree with Obi and about the change in "illegal defenses"

I grow weary of the NBA calling fouls on the defender when a jump shooter is barely touched (or not touched) in the act of shooting, or jump shooter sticks leg out or jumps into a defender while post players get mauled underneath.

I'm not sure the officials call the game any differently underneath than what it used to be called, but it certainly is called differently for perimeter players, either on jump shots or drives to the basket.

Rule changes and evolution of the game makes for certain positions to grow in value, with others diminishing. Guards have grown in value at the cost of the big man, much like the QB and WR have at the expense of the RB in football.

I wonder what the percentages look like on dunks attempted and 3 pointers attempted[/sarcasm

I can appreciate a good troll when I see one. Ill play along

Dirk Nowitzki though plays PF is a 7fter that relies on a jump shot and loves to shoot 3s
Channing Frye is a 6'11 PF that does an exceptional amount of shooting behind the arch

Yes, I realize there are bigs that still make a living inside the paint. My point is that its becoming increasingly more common that big guys are becoming perimeter players and shooting 3s. That was not the case years ago

I want to get back to not calling fouls, even if there is contact, for the offensive player creating the contact. If you drive into someone who had good position and swing the ball through his arms, you better make the shot.

And yes, I know this would hurt my team's best player. I'm just tired of watching good defense be negated because a player jumped into their chest.

Harden doesn't swing his arms through people. They stopped calling that swinging arm thing on jumpshots a few seasons ago. Harden gets hacked like crazy going to the hoop when he sticks the ball out.

Well for one a big shooting a three is pretty much unblockable, but more importantly a 40% 3 point percentage is equal to a 60% shooter inside the arc.

Seems like coaches are finally paying attention to basic statistics/analytics to me.
