Adam Silver wants to give the players more rest between games. Less preseason games and reformat the playoff system. Im all for these ideas.

I don't see the playoff format changing much because of what Silver said...why would more than 15 owners vote for it?

I've always thought that it makes sense to extend into the summer a tad bit more (but certainly not starting earlier against football). If I was in Milwaukee or Minnesota, I would rather go down to a basketball game more in May than in February.

I think with summer leagues, the preseason games are needed even less than in the NFL.

Longer would be good. After the NBA ends I'm stuck with just baseball for a while. Baseball is fine but not when the Astros continually suck.

I agree. Shift the schedule to fill more dead time with sports. Less over lap. I think taking out 10-15 games would be best.

The BIG problem that both sides are dodging is the THE SEASON IS TOO LONG. Its not the 4 games/5 days. Most coaches realize that with resting players all the time. It sucks for the fans and waters down the game. Its all about losing revenue and the fan pays for it.

Pretty sure the NBA wont reduce the # of regular season games. I just don't see that happening. They should cut the pre-season down immensely though and just spread the season out a little better. There should be like 2 or 3 pre-season games max. 8 is way too many and serves no point.

As for conferences/divisions and the playoff format. I just don't see how you can really change the current format. Going 1-16 sounds cool but that would virtually make the conferences pointless which every major sport has. I would just keep the playoff format the way it currently is.

If they want to re-format the conferences a little bit then that could work but not sure what that would accomplish either.

That last statement is dead on, in my estimation. As was stated above, 2-3 preseason games is plenty. Start the season at about the same time of year, wrap up the regular season closer to May 1 (about 2-2.5 weeks after it currently ends). Playoffs could finish up around the 4th of July. NBA Draft could be on the day after the MLB All-Star game...the deadest day in the entire sporting calendar.

My suggested playoff change:

If the 8 seed is below .500 in one conference then if the 9 seed in the other conference is over .500 (not on .500, over) then that team will be seeded in the other conference based on record.

I don't get some of this scheduling.

Dallas starts playing tonight (Thursday), then play against Houston on Friday, and play again Sunday.
Meanwhile, Memphis doesn't start again after the ASG until Sunday.

Tonight is Tuesday.

But I agree, Mavs and Spurs both have it rough coming back. OKC/Houston and LAC/GSW back-to-back, respectively.

Yes. Today is Tuesday, and I've been frozen inside with the family (no school) for 48 hours with no meaningful NBA.

I'm not sure I can make it.
