Yea Camby is back, I think he suffered a foot injury that is going to keep him out for a few weeks, but he is back with the Rockets behind Howard and Asik

In regards to Greg Smith he has his moments but is definitely not a starting 4. I do think though that he will provide some good depth at the position

Highlights from the Pacers game this morning:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXCa94bmanI

1) It is weird seeing Scola in a Pacers jersey
2) Parsons just keeps getting better
3) I hope we see a BIG difference in a center who can actually finish at the rim and not drop the ball below his waist every touch

May be nothing....but McHale went on the record saying Beverley & Lin will split the starts for the entire pre-season. Beverley started the Pacers game.

Regular season tipoff is right around the corner!

Saw a report on ESPN that hinted that Asik would be traded by the trade deadline this year. It was an insider article, which I am not, so I couldn't read it. Was wondering if someone else saw the same article?
CFTXAG10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
^ from what I have heard the ESPN article was about Asik trade speculation. Mainly about him being unhappy with the Howard acquisition and the fact that the Rockets would love to bring in a quality starting power forward

I don't see them dealing Asik unless Morey pulls the wool over another team's eyes and gets something ridiculous done. I believe they consider Asik an insurance policy for Howard at this point

I think the Rockets will try to hold onto Asik because their second team defense was so bad last year. Obviously if you can get Aldridge then you do it, but I don't think that's likely this season. Next year, when he has an expiring contract, Portland might move him so that they don't lose him without getting anything in return.

Hope so...on another note, has a city's NBA team won more games than its NFL and MLB teams combined (for those who have all 3) in a single season?

If the Texans go, say, 7-9, that would be 58 wins when combined with the Astros. A 58-win regular season for the Rockets wouldn't be a total shocker.

Come on October 30.

2004 Phoenix

Diamondbacks 51-111
Cardinals 6-10
Suns 62-20 (2004-2005)

2003 Detroit

Tigers 43-119
Lions 5-11
Pistons 54-28 (2003-2004)

Those are the only one I could find after looking through some of the obvious ones.

I would say it's down-right probable at this point. Presuming the Texans go 7-9 is generous!

I should have thought of those two...good research, coop. And yes, 7-9 for the Texans is looking more generous by the week.

Hell, I'm even looking forward to Wednesday's preseason game...that is quite an indictment on the suckitude.

I'm still holding out hope that a CSN deal gets worked out sometime before Thanksgiving. Does anyone have any details about where things stand now, or are we still just waiting for the Oct. 28th hearing as described here?

Can some resident legal-eagle explain to a lowly engineer what the argument is in layman's terms? Is it Crane vs. Comcast, or Comcast vs. TV carriers, or Crane/Astros/Rockets vs. Comcast? And who wants what out of this bankruptcy deal?

Keep dreaming on a comcast deal.

Crane/Astros vs. Comcast/CSN Houston
(Rockets are remaining silent in the legal proceedings, although they have voiced concerns over not having their games televised)

The Astros don't want CSN Houston to be allowed to file bankruptcy in the first place. They want this whole thing dismissed. Crane is saying that Comcast is allowing CSN Houston to file for bankruptcy in an underhand effort to re-distribute the assets and rights to Comcast.

Ultimately I think CSN Houston/Comcast want to be able to freely negotiate a fair price with carriers like DirecTV, ATT, etc. (free from the Crane/Astros greedy stranglehold). They cannot get a deal done for $3.50+/subscriber, but that is what the Astros aren't backing off of in negotiations.

IMO this deal was **** from the beginning. When you fix a company like Comcast (horrible rep) with a seemingly greedy owner in Jim Crane it is a recipe for disaster.

The season opener is on the 30th, 2 days after the initial court hearing. The Rockets will not be opening the season on any provider other than Comcast.

The optimist in me says other cable providers will get the channel by sometime in December

Thanks for the update. So it's Crane that's holding firm on his $3.50 per subscriber? For some reason I thought Comcast was the one making that demand. That makes more sense now. So basically Comcast wants the ability to negotiate with the carriers but Crane won't budge from $3.50?

This update came out last night. It sounds like Comcast wants to proceed with Chapter 11 and is alleging that without it, they will close up shop and have a fire-sale and everyone at the network will lose their job. Meanwhile Crane is saying that Chapter 11 isn't necessary, and since the network has been up for over 1 year (Oct. 1 is the one-year anny.), then he has the right to shop for other networks rights.

I'm becoming more pessimistic after reading that.

Any guesses as to what happens after the hearing? If CSN is/isn't allowed to go through Chapter 11, what would be the next move in each scenario?

Exactly. Comcast/CSN wants to make $ where it can with other providers while Crane/Astros are holding out for top dollar. I am not an expert on TV revenues, but I would suspect that with the Dynamo/Rockets/Astros you are looking at somewhere between $2.75- around $3 per subscriber.

Join the club. Crane sounds like he wouldn't mind a break up w/ CSN Houston if he can shop the rights to broadcast the Astros elsewhere. I don't think he will ever find a network to pay for those rights knowing his asking price per subscriber.

It is almost impossible to predict what will happen in this cluster no matter what the judge decides, but I would think the best course of action would be to figure out a way to avoid the bankruptcy. Comcast/CSN Houston have invested a lot in this network.

CFTXAG10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would be interested to know what ATT and other providers have been willing to settle for per subscriber. How far off from 3.50/per is it? I know ATT laughed at the price Crane wanted after researching how the network has done so far for Comcast subscribers
coop-aero-06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Thanks again for the insight.

I remember reading a long time ago (I'll see if I can find the article) that Crane said that the $3.50 figure was commensurate with what top 5 TV markets were getting. According to this, Houston is only the #10 market. In addition, his Astros are stinking up the joint which further deteriorates his cause.

Maybe Crane will come to his senses and reduce his asking price. Could sign on to a lower price for something like 3 years? And then if the Astros are better he'll have more leverage for the next negotiation.
CFTXAG10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yea, I tend to agree with that. I think Crane feels like the team will be a lot better in 3-5 years and he will be stuck at a lower $/per subscriber. Maybe if they can shorten the length then it will get done. Idk if the providers would go for it, but it might be worth a shot.

Edit to add some actual basketball talk:

Rockets vs. Magic tonight at 7pm - Toyota Center
If I remember correctly Bev will get the start tonight since Lin got it last game. Will be on NBATV
