Wow. That law is bullsh-t.

The no income tax thing is a myth. Players get taxed based on where the game is played so only half of the games are subject to no income tax. Florida also doesn't have a state income tax.

It's more games than that if you play for the three Texas teams.
41 games in Houston
2 games in San Antonio
2 games in Dallas
1 game in Miami
1 game in Orlando
Guess in the grand scheme of things, the difference is not that much in tax savings. But then again, I'd rather keep $10 than give it to the IRS.

As a group, people generally value what they have. For example, I value winning spelling bees. Black people value athleticism over skill.
They always hated Yao and thought he was overrated. I would be surprised if the the players thought Dirk was THAT good. And the Spurs are the opposite of everything that black people appreciate (again in general). Player like to play with other players that they respect. I just think that Texas teams don't have the kind of players that most want to play with.

It's not a huge difference in the end.

Are you mad about the blatant racism or the spurs put down?
quote:I've been wondering this the last couple of years where the East has been awful. What is it about the West that makes them so much better? Is it coaching, front office, PG play?
To me, a much more interesting question is why does the West appear to be structurally stronger than the East? Within the conferences teams rise and fall all the time, but over the last 20 years the West has dominated head to head win%. Especially interesting when you consider that there is actually a stronger basketball culture all along the Eastern seaboard than there is anywhere in the West.
quote:BTW, I don't see how anything I wrote on this thread was racist. Now, PascalWager's post seemed pretty racist, but the rest of the thread was pretty much just the way things had always been until the last 2 offseasons.
Man we need to ban diet coke as its way more racist than the flag

Great thread bump. I had totally forgotten about this.
Things have really changed in a short amount of time. I actually really think a lot of it has to do with social media. Now, instead of the need to be in large, media intensive cities to be highly marketed, players can be marketed and even market themselves to a worldwide audience in a matter of seconds. Superstars in Cleveland and Oklahoma City are getting bigger endorsement deals than superstars in LA and NY.
Things have changed quickly. Think about the country's stance as a whole on gay marriage 3 years ago and it's amazing how quickly the overall sentiment has changed. 5 years ago I never would have thought that SA, HOU, and Dallas would be signing players that were offered the same amount of money in LA and NY, but now it seems like the no-brainer choice for these players.
One thing I think Spurs, Rockets and Mavs fans can now agree on is that this new development is pretty awesome.
