Black superstars have no interest in moving to Texas as free agents when they can pick between much better locations like Miami, LA, and New York. The Texas teams cannot land the coveted max superstar through FA.

That and I think we can all agree that the Spurs are without a doubt the best team in the state.

When the rockets were a great team in the mid 90's they had no problem getting free agents/ dudes who wanted to be traded, Drexler, Barkley, Pippen. If Houston was still a great team I really don't think it would be a problem.

Do white superstars want to play in Texas?

I think you might occasionally find a white superstar that would prefer to be in Texas. Maybe not in basketball, but I'm thinking of somebody like Nolan Ryan.

And Barkley, Pippen and all those guys were all has-beens by the time they joined the Rockets.

I'm talking about a superstar in his prime choosing to come to a Texas team in free agency, not an old superstar that is chasing a championship and joining a good team.

Deion was a black superstar and he came to Dallas...

Brett Hull was still in his prime when he signed with Dallas, so was Ed Belfour

Well, I was referring to the NBA, not the NFL or NHL (although I did bring up Nolan Ryan). I was just trying to think of a good ole boy rancher type. Perhaps I should have said Jayson Williams since he likes to shoot shotguns).

There is no doubt the Cowboys can lure top notch FAs.

Hockey sucks so I really have no clue there. Is there even a black hockey player in the NHL?

Texas teams need to do a better job of selling players on the no state income tax
Diet Cokehead

The no income tax thing is a myth. Players get taxed based on where the game is played so only half of the games are subject to no income tax. Florida also doesn't have a state income tax.

It's not a huge difference in the end.

Robinson, Duncan, Pippen, Barkley, Drexler, Olajuwon... Sounds like it was ok 20 years ago.... Not so much today.

Robinson, Duncan, and Olajuwon were drafted so they had no choice in the matter. Drexler was traded to Houston and it's also his hometown.

Pippen and Barkley were past their prime so they don't count.

Yeah, I'm talking about a free agent superstar in their prime making the decision to want to go play in San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston. It hasn't happened.

Hull was 34. Belfour was 32. Is that in your prime in hockey? I have no frame of reference, but seems old for an athlete.

If you have to ask this, you clearly don't follow the NHL, so why would you even ask this.

How many free agent superstars in their prime have actually signed with another team in the last 20 years? It can't be many.

Off the top of my head:

1. Shaq - LA
2. LeBron - Mia
3. Amare Stoudemire - NY
4. Grant Hill - Orl
5. Bosh - Mia

McGrady - Orl (wasn't really a "superstar" at that point yet)

Nash - Phx (didn't really become a superstar until after he signed)

Who am I missing?

I believe the Rockets traded for McGrady for the Steve Francis package.

There is definitely more press on the East Coast and West Coast. I can see why it would appeal to some who like the spotlight.

Texas is more about providing a better family atmosphere and lower taxes.

The free agent superstar moves so much in baseball...thanks to the Baseball Antichrist

MLB's CBA rules are probably a bigger contributing factor.

This happens A LOT in baseball. However, it rarely happens in football and happens once every 2 or 3 years in basketball

Because I don't watch the crap and I'm curious if there are any black guys in the league. The little that I've watched, I haven't seen any.

it's funny when people talk about miami, much like lebron in 'the decision' the refer to south beach. most of miami sucks otherwise. but, if you're a superstar why wouldn't you want to go play in LA, NY or Miami? Chicago doesn't even get the attention of those teams and I think it's a bad ass city. nothing in Texas has a real sex appeal that would attract NBA players.

if you're rich, you don't hang out in the ****ty parts of miami. You hang at the Ritz, Club Liv, Marquee, ocean dr, golf courses, etc. No one is going to look for Rudy's to eat

Thanks for posting this. I was surprised when I just now read up more on it. That's astonishing that this law is in place. To me, it's akin to asking me to pay income tax in all the states and countries that I visit on business trips.
