so sad. everyone around them is at least trying to make moves, and the best we can do is amnesty chicken dick jefferson and sign another backup pg? get ready for a long shortened season, ladies.

This is the 1996-1997 season all over again for the Spurs. All their good players will get hurt and then they will put the remaining guys on IR in order to get the best pick in the draft.

if this teams stays healthy, they are just good enough to lock down the 8th spot in the playoffs, assuming manu and tim don't go down as you mentioned.

if the spurs aren't going to do ANYTHING to make the best out of timmy's last good season, i would actually rather see him retire so they can get a top 10 pick. next's year draft should be pretty good.

FTR, I thought the same about the Mavs going into last season. The West is pretty damn weak this year.

I've seen reports that they're interested in trading for Kaman, assuming the Clips match for DeAndre. That wouldn't be a terrible move; Kaman would be a one year rental for Timmy's potential last year (as a difference maker at least), then a ton of cap space the following year.

What remains to be seen is what life after Duncan will be like. Living in SA, I can see how it wouldn't exactly be a prime destination for marquee free agents to want to sign.

SPurs don't really have the trade pieces to get Captain Kaman. McDyess+Splitter+Bonner would work, but I doubt LAC wants all that salary of Splitter/Bonner.

dyess would re-retire, and losing splitter just to get kaman would be a lateral move at best

I don't know Obi, if I'm the Spurs, I don't see Splitter as a difference maker/untouchable at this point. I think he has a semi bright future, but don't see him as ever becoming a difference making big man.

With Kaman, you get a pretty solid C that can make up the difference of Timmy's sliding offensive stats. Plus, if you're looking to rebuild, you want to be as shitty as possible once Duncan retires.

I know it isn't the way I like to personally look at things, but with the title window closing, if not already closed, bottoming out is better than fielding a marginal team.

i would say that no one is untouchable, and i'm not so much arguing that splitter is the answer as much as i'm arguing that the problem last year was interior defense and giving up one big man just to get another isn't going to do any good. we need more solid big men, not a trade 1 for 1, which is basically what it would be.

i'm still hopeful for splitter. the dude played well the few times he got the chance. i don't expect him to be the next timmy/david, but he's not some scrub backup either.

I agree with what you're saying.

My line of thinking though is why not grab a C who is a proven scorer to pair with Duncan? I think Splitter can eventually become a serviceable C in the league, but hell, beyond this year, the future is in bottoming out and getting high draft picks. For this season, Kaman is a proven commodity that helps on offense. Defensively, he isn't a slouch, but finding a starting caliber C with great defensive chops is no easy task.

I think this is a little much. This team won 61 games last year with basically the same roster (minus Dyess and Hill). I don't see any reason why they won't be able to compete for homecourt advantage in the first round. As previously mentioned, the west is getting weaker.

Also of note, Howard has narrowed down his choices to SA, Utah and Washington.

Also, if the trade goes through, Kaman is going to the hornets in the Paul trade.

I'm not expecting greatness, but I am excited to see another season from Neel and a healthy Anderson. I'm also looking forward to seeing Leonard, the guy was a beast in college. He could be a long and athletic wing player this team has missed since forever.

For this season, they need a big man and I just don't see splitter as being more than a serviceable role player. Getting Kaman would be HUGE, IMO he's one of the most underrated players in the league.

K-Man is so terrible at defense, though. He constantly looks lost. He has some fantastic post moves, though.

Kaman spends a lot of time injured... averages 61 games per season over his career, and only 49 per season over the last 4 years.

Not more of RJ
I'm tired of him being a non-factor

Awesome. Sounds like the Spurs are hanging on to all their regular season only no defense spot-up shooters.

Would be nice to get some actual players.

I think so too. But it will be difficult. The schedule is insane. Literally a game every other day at least (with a few two day breaks and a 5 day break in February). You have to figure that Timmy and Manu will sit out a handful of games so it'll be tough.

I can't say it enough, but the NBA completely ****ed this up. They should have played a complete schedule and then had the Finals in August instead of cramming 2/3rd the schedule into 1/2 the time.

Then we would have:
Jan: MNC Game and good bowls + NFL Playoffs
Feb: Super Bowl
March: March Madness
April: MLB Season Begins
May: NHL Playoffs
June: Stanley Cup Finals
July: NBA Playoffs
August: NBA Finals
September: NFL Begins
October: World Series
November: College Football Rivalry Week
December: NCAA Bowls

How much ****ing sense does that make. Stern missed an opportunity to stop competing with the NFL and change it so he only competed with MLB. And who ****ing cares about MLB?

^^^ The NFL plays in April, May, and June?? Or are you talking about the regular season as well??

I don't mind the time of year scheduling, but they should have trimmed this season down to 50 games. It's too much.

The NBA moves start date back to Christmas permanently. Play Dec-July, then playoffs in July and August. Finals over just in time for NFL and NCAA football.

Currently, preseason is October, and regular season starts in November. So in October, November, December, January and February butt up against the NFL. Why compete with the most popular sport in America when you don't have to?
