The fact that some people can't express their opinions on this board without getting insulting is no fault of mine. That's just poor upbringing and bad judgement.

That said, since everyone seems so intent on getting back to the original topic, I'd like for one of you non-retard non-chicken littles to point out for me where I PREDICTED the Spurs would mail it in or throw in the towel. Any Spur fan is fooling himself to suggest that the Spurs have put 100% into the 2nd game of back-to-backs in recent memory. I was curious to know what other's thoughts were, given the very hot start the Spurs have had, and even went so far as to say "I honestly don't know what to think".

Now I know a little better. Glad to join the club of people who know, unequivocally, without-a-doubt, that the Spurs will no longer EVER struggle in those games. Sorry it took me so long, but clearly I just lack the type of clairvoyance it takes to make such bold and striking predictions. Perhaps you guys should get into bookmaking or sports betting as a career.

Every NBA player in the league flops when they take a charge. As physical as the NBA game is, you have to sell a charge by falling down or the refs won't even notice.

They frequently don't make calls like that at the end of the game, but they should. A foul should always be a foul. They had a scandal a few years back with Tim Donaghy, a ref who supposedly threw games for money; if you can arbitrarily decide at the end of the game when you can call a foul and when you don't, it can give you a clear shot to manipulate the game as you see fit.

It's also ridiculous to say you're 'letting the players decide the game' when you swallow the whistle. Anyone remember Sloan driving against UCLA (where one grabbed his wrist and another hacked his arm)? I've seen a Spurs game where Michael Finley was literally tackled by Dirk at the end of the game and the refs ignored it. If you're allowed to tackle the opposing player, why even bother playing the last few seconds?

If anyone remembers the 2006 Mavs-Spurs series (a horribly officiated series, but I'll only mention the last part for now), at the end of game 7 Manu fouled Dirk with only 12 or so seconds remaining. It was a good call, Manu fouled him. Only seconds later, however, Dirk did the same thing to Duncan (hacked him across the arms as he was trying to dunk at the end of regulation) and was not called for a foul, resulting in overtime and the Mavs winning the series. The refs are deciding the game either way, either by making the correct call or by shirking their responsibility to make the call.

Nice post by Thompson. He hit the money on the head. If Melo is allowed to run over people on his way to the basket, that's changing the game just as much as calling the foul.

Also, anybody that thinks Manu flopped on that is out of their mind. 230lb Melo was nearly at a sprint and Manu was standing still. That hit knocked him off of his feet.

Yeah, I don't know what I could have been thinking when I posted this.

They need to integrate Splitter if they want to have a chance against bigger teams like the Lakers, Magic and Celtics. There will probably be rough moments as he learns, but the alternative is having 6'5" Blair up against 7'1" Gasol in the playoffs. Not pretty.

This thread was not just about a single game...it was about every back-to-back game the Spurs have played in the last 5 years. Anyone who can distinguish their ass from a hole in the ground would know the Spurs have underperformed in those games.
