There are a lot of points you can use to argue the case for either Olajuwon or Robinson, but coaching doesn't have that much of an impact as the other factors mentioned.
The coaching disparity between Rudy and Hill was ginormous. It had a HUGE impact on the game.
Hill choosing to guard Hakeem straight up by the Spurs best player when Hakeem was at the absolute peak of his career - one of the highest peaks achieved by any player ever was idiotic.
Conversely, Rudy T abused Robinson by moving Hakeem a lot and making Robinson work hard on D, then immediately double teaming him on O to make everything that much more difficult.
How Hill didn't realize that when Hakeem is playing that well, you double team the hell out of him and make Kenny Smith beat you, I will never know. Rudy certainly realized that you don't let Robinson have anything easy and you make the Spurs beat you with with stiffs like Vinny Del Negro, JR Reid, Terry Cummings, Willie Anderson and Dennis Rodman. Hakeem got to spend the whole series guarding Dennis Rodman. That is, until Rodman was suspended. So Hakeem was well rested on offense, because Rodman basically sat in one place on offense and waited for a shot to go up.
The coaching disparity is by far the most overlooked thing about that series.
No way Don Nelson and George Karl come in over Rudy T as better coaches. I'll agree with Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Pat Riley and Gregg Pop. I think Rudy T is 5th.
