Per Mertesacker is stepping down from running the Academy over the last 8 years (which seems insane). Personally think this is a huge loss. Feel like he really did a great job to revitalize the Academy which had seemed to have fallen off.

We've had a ton of talent come through recently. I imagine he's looking at moving into a more senior director role at a club.

Beat Wigan on our way to the 2014 FA Cup.

Some big matchups that will knock out a contender or two...Newcastle vs Aston Villa and Liverpool (likely) v Brighton.

Not great news on the injury front according to Arteta.

No timeline on Hincapie. Calafiori still weeks out. Dowman and Mosquera are improving, but not training so still weeks to go. AND now Trossard and Saliba are doubts for tomorrow.

Missing 4 defenders during this insanely busy time is really bad. You now probably have to risk playing White and Timber at the same time with very little room for rotation unless you drop Rice or Norgaard into the back 4 to help cope.

Ugh gonna have to turn it up a notch. Semenyo looks to be a major shot in the arm for City

Might be time to somewhat sacrifice the Carabao Cup...

Really want a decent showing today. I think Arteta goes pretty strong here, but our performances against the "Top" teams have been very average. I want to see that change.

I feel like we need to find some cover on the back line before the window closes. Just a lot of risk right now not to.

I think right now (as is) they should use a forced 2 game rotation. Timber rotates with MLS & White to where each player plays 2 games and then rests 1.

After the Haaland offsides yesterday, I was actually nervous about that potential Gyokeres offsides.

Aim for the rest of this one has to be a second goal and then taking Timber off for MLS.

I believe the way a team celebrates goals and protects each other is a really big deal. I love how we celebrate goals.

If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

Yep. I love the way we celebrate. They seem to truly want each other to succeed.

Let's close this out.

Feels like the guy has usually been not quite in the right place at the right time this season.

If he can just do that a little more consistently, there's more ugly goals like that to be had.

Damn. Not a good sign when Odegaard ends up at right back

Also did not help that the Chelsea played White not the ball preventing him from clearing the ball. No idea how physical the Ref is allowing though.

To be fair to him, he hasn't really gotten any service. With the inverted wingers always cutting inside to combine or shoot themselves, it just hasn't suited him.

The idea that he hasn't been in the right place at the right time isn't true imo. The last game he missed one cross. The other two good crosses Arsenal had that nobody got on the end of were after he was subbed off. There's a narrative going around that he missed all these good crosses and it's just not true.

Good to take a lead to the 2nd leg at home, but the way that game transpired, disappointing to not be up more.

Some of it is just bad luck. Some of it might be a lack of consistently great service. But I can remember him being close but not quite there with a lot of loose balls and crosses. That happens to all strikers but the good ones do manage to be in the right spot from time to time and he just hasn't been. He seemed to move fairly well today, obviously hope he keeps building on this.

The narrative is that Arsenal let Chelsea back into the tie twice, and to be fair, that was frustrating and even Arsenal-tinged media are adopting the same narrative. But yeah, Arsenal had more shots, more shots on goal, and of course more goals from three different players while playing away.

I will say, I kind of figured that if we won by two, we could let MLS start the second game and let Timber sit. But I am not sure Arteta will be willing to do that now.

Really starting to feel like it is time to start wondering if MLS truly has a future at left back or if we should start trying him at defensive midfielder once Calafiori/Hincapie are back healthy.

If we are moving MLS into midfield, it probably needs to be in the Rice 8 position. His defense is why he isn't playing at LB in the first place. There's no doubt in my mind that that young Brazilian kid would have eviscerated Myles if he has started last night

It happens more than people realize. Gyokeres may have some team/league adjustments but Ive seen a good number of clips that show a) teams double/triple teaming him & giving him no space and b) our "playmakers" either not seeing him or opting not to feed him the ball.

Edit..... most tightly marked FW in all of EPL....

That's probably right. I just wonder if his defense would look better without the pressure we put on our left back to cover so much space. Heck, even Timber couldn't entirely pull it off yesterday; he was nowhere to be seen and Odegaard somehow ended up at left back before one of the goals.
