They are less than 2 years from a WC and we basically have 1.5 years of friendlies and no meaningful qualification matches. The chance to swap him for anyone else has come and gone IMHO.
Leave aside the tactical questions that ggg is responsible for. He didn't take a punch at someone last night. He didn't go all stupid and get sent off like Dest did.

True, but GGG is still a very middling manager. USSF can, and must, do much better.
If they are serious about taking the next step as a program, then they need to figure out how to get the money to pay a top tier manager.

Ive seen people say we cant pay the MNT coach more than the WNT coach, but not sure if its actually true.

I don't disagree that Berhalter can be improved upon. That's a first step that I think is very easy to take. What I find funny is the frequency with which people take the second step of "and we should pay for an elite coach" without ever taking the crucial third step of saying who or how.
That second step is kind of important without the third. And I would argue that, at international level, it is rare to find candidates that are described by the majority as elite. People say "go hire one" as if elite national team managers are just growing on trees. I mean look at the elite national teams and tell me which ones would you would describe as elite?
I would say Deschamps based on his tenure and amazingly consistent performances and maybe Scaloni based solely on his WC victory. Everyone else is a big lol...Roberto Martinez? Southgate? Tedesco? Brazil's brand new coach? Going to go dip into the club coaching ranks and get who? Pep? Klopp? And even if you did, there's no guarantee that they can succeed at international soccer. It's a completely different type of management.

The frustrating part is we have gotten more and more talent over the years past, but we still look like the same club. We beat bad teams most of the team but still are quite capable of losing to **** teams more often than we should. We also cannot beat a top team. Yes we occasionally draw with them, but it doesnt feel like we ever improve.

They don't want to afford it. They need to pay around 4M. If they do so then the have to pay the women's coach the same if they want to continue the pay farce.

I'm of the belief they can find a way to get sponsors to pay the manager.

I appreciate that perspective, but the pattern of lack of discipline is on him too. It'd be one thing if this was an isolated incident. And before these cards we, of course, have Reyna-gate, and before that we have Weston-gone-wild.Mathguy64 said:

Maybe there is a leadership void amongst the players… but if so, as a coach you have to know that and make sure that void is filled, either by you or someone on your staff.
Or while I'm at it, I'll also offer that perhaps the biggest problem now isn't Ggg himself, but the fact that USSF rehired him. There's a pervasive lack of accountability that runs through the whole organization.
