3 nil score will look good but in reality it was a horrid game.

Why? What was horrid?

We dominated play against a team that was sitting in a 9 man defensive shell. They were tough to dissect in first half, but we earned all 3 goals. Could have been more.

We lacked the good in ball in first half, but second half was relentless pressure and opportunities.

Ream and CCV were not very busy. We dominated that match. But as central defenders, they didn't make mistakes in defending (because those concede goals), and they were safe and kept it simple in distribution (because central defender mistakes playing out can concede goals). I saw one badly judged step by Ream, but no harm on the end of it.

It was too sloppy in the 1st half with poor first touches

I think we were unlucky to not have already scored in the first 37 minutes when it was still 11v11. T&T is not good.

Glad we opened the spigot and poured on 3 in the end. Makes a pretty low risk away match for the 2nd leg. We know from experience how away concacaf matches va go when you need a point. I think that infamous one that kept us out of the WC had an unlucky deflection own goal from Omar Gonzalez.

True story, when they finally took 16 and 17 out, I said good, now we will score three goals probably.
17 in particular just wasn't playing well.
Glad it's a comfortable trip to POS now, for a while tonight I was legit worried that they had some voodoo over us.

Honest feedback from being at the game.

1. Dest was in poor form. A few good crosses but also a lot of bad crosses and passes. He tried to beat the left back 1v1 and turned it over a lot as a result.
2. Neither starting winger was very good.
3. Austin crowd sucked.

tillman is skillful and deserves the minutes he's getting at PSV. Usmnt needs his continued development, but it was not his best night for USA tonight. Paredes on the other hand, I was impressed with. Maybe my expectations were low as he's young and getting a chance with a nearly best 11, but I saw a lot of good touches and good effort from him.

It wasn't horrid imo.
I watched this game later in the evening, couldnt catch it live, so didnt read the game thread until after.
Thought we dominated the match, did a good job of breaking them down, moving the ball quickly with pace.
I would agree we did struggle a bit to get Falorin involved, but that can happen at times with how they defended. Probably needed him to drag them around a bit more, with midfielders making runs into his space. It could have been better with more clinical finishing early, of course. But I would disagree with anyone disappointed with that game.
I would also say that I dont really rate Tillman, but will be happy if he continues to improve with his club. Similar with Parades. Dont think either are bad, just need to prove more.

edit: I still want Gregg gone from a tactical point of view, I think he is going to limit what this team can accomplish. But thats not happening, so just accepting it is what it is

We didn't have a shot on goal in the first half, including the ten minutes or so they were playing with 10.
That is bad, no matter how you slice it,

I mean, you want shots on goal because that's how you score, but also sometimes you just have a poor shooting night. We were taking shots, they were just missing the frame or getting blocked. This is especially common when an opponent bunkers deep and doesn't let you get behind them. We eventually found our breakthrough.

I thought the game was horrid, but only from the standpoint that it is horrible watching a game where a team just bunkers and has zero intent to score.

Performance-wise I thought we looked pretty good overall (minus Tillman who I mentioned before) - and TnT played defense incredibly well. They closed things down so quickly, and that goalkeeper played out of his mind. To the point about shots on goal - I was surprised when that stat was mentioned because it didn't feel like that was the case. We had plenty of good chances but TnT was good at what they were doing. Tillman sending two shots into outer space were the only chances I noticed where we missed the opportunity.

Again, I hate watching games like this, but TnT did it well and weren't dirty about it (yellows were sloppy/unskilled, not malicious IMO).

The commentators were all correct at HT. We were way too narrow in 1H. Everything was running through Gio and we were trying to pass our way through 10 guys all crammed in the 18. The change after HT to get width helped but frankly that shape and tactical change should have happened the moment TT went down to 10.

Missing Weah and Pulisic really showed. That speed difference on the right without Weah was noticeable.

The last goal, Renya dummy, Balogan touch, Renya shot was sublime. made me feel better about the game and our level of play. If berhalter doesn't bring everyone down w some b**** we should play unconscious and score it up in port of spain.

Was the field in bad shape or are our players still not at the technical level as the top level teams? I don't recall seeing the ball popping up on 1st touch nearly as often in the Uruguay vs Argentina match as I saw in our match against T&T

I suspect some of both. We've always had issues with a touch or weighted pass in the final third.

Uruguay and Argentina are also arguably two of the most technical teams on the planet when it comes to on the ball play.

And dirtiest. Messi choked out an Uruguayan yesterday. Not the first time he's put hands in a throat with no consequences.
