Kind of wish we had put in Kenna Caldwell with McClellan down twice with cramping.

We got soccered tonight. Completely outplayed them. Ours hit the crossbar twice. Theirs didn't

Match isn't over yet.

But I will say that we seem to get "soccered" a lot more than we "soccer" other squads.

The game completely changed in the last 13-14 minutes. Lack of everything.

Game went better than expected, but per usual we cannot find the back of the net. I don't understand why for the last few years we cannot manage to recruit or retain true strikers.

We hit the cross bar twice and had ball saved on the line. That's called bad luck

That might've been the most frustrating game ive ever watched at Ellis field. Completely dominated them and come out with nothing

Aggies lose 1-0 in a match they had no business even tying with Arkansas.

As a team, we played great. Great coaching strategy too. However, our forwards simply don't score. The forwards have to do their job at a much higher (even average) rate. They simply aren't finishing as much as should be expected. And that makes it really hard to win. .

Yes, very new to college soccer. This is unintentionally hilarious.

The Aggies played a good game and I (sadly) would have celebrated a draw here. But a loss is a loss. And a loss is especially a loss when we need wins.

If we continue playing like this, we'll get some wins. Onto the next one.

I hadn't given up on finding a path to the NCAA tourney for this year. Is that the assumption after tonight?

In prior years, we might be sitting here at a similar point in the season with an RPI in the top 20 and a .500 type SEC season would still find us never threatened in our quest to make the field of 64 because of what we did in the non-conference.

With an RPI over 100 currently, ending up with a L tonight really hurts in that NCAA pursuit. As well as we played tonight, we deserved a W, but not coming out with a tie does smart quite a bit.

When the trainer ran back when she was helping McClellan, I thought she got the magic spray. Nope, pickle juice! After seeing this happen the last away game, I'd be hitting 2 of those pickle juices at the half if electrolytes are the problem.

They all need to hit one pre game and one at half

I trained all summer in 105 degrees that pickle juice is magic

!5 corners in 1 half must be a record. When McClellan was being treated for cramps neither Caldwell or Gunnarson was warming up. Only played 4 subs tonight and Smith only played 34 minutes.

I do dumb 100 mile bike rides. I sweat like a salty pig. During the last one, I was chugging 2 cups of that every 10-20 miles. Easily over 5000mg an hour.

That stuff works.

This was such a tough result for A&M tonight. A&M outplayed Arkansas for long stretches of the match, outshot them 16-9, and had the better opportunities in front of goal, but as per usual couldn't find a way to finish. It was cruel. Midway through the second half, A&M hit 2 crossbars and 2 second chance shots of those rebounds both went wide of goal. Had any of those 4 shots gone in, I believe A&M goes on to win the match. A&M dominated the first half and should have been up 1-0 at the half. You just knew those missed chances would come back to bite us. During the second half, the Hogs had a stretch of about 15 corner kicks in 10 minutes (something I've never seen before), and eventually one of those chances was going to result in a rebound or opportunity for the winner. A&M was pinned in its defensive third and couldn't get out for that stretch in the second half and it cost us the game.

The coaches even tried playing a quasi-box formation with 4-5 midfielders in order to control some possession through the middle of the field, but to no avail. Right now we just don't have the players to play the kind of possession soccer we've been able to play in the past. The result is having to just kick the ball long and hope one of the forwards or attacking mids makes a special play and gets a cross into the box or a shot on goal. However, it was fun to watch Mia Pante emerge to have her best game of the season with multiple long runs wide and serving several great passes into the box for scoring opportunities. Where has this been over the last month? If she can be consistent, we will be a much better team down the stretch. Other than Mia, the rest of the midfield was forgettable. If I were the coaches, I'd be scouring the country for portal transfers at this position.

The backline played admirably, but eventually something is going to break down when you can't get the ball out of danger and connect with the midfielders up the field. We did seem to give up way too many easy corners, which kept us on our heels during that critical stretch. One issue is that McClellan is too short to seize many of those corner crosses and it causes a lot of tense moments with the ball bouncing around in front of goal, which leads to frantic kicks up field to a waiting Arkansas player. Armenta, Cornog, and the Matulas played well together and certainly held up their end against a strong Arkansas offense.

There's not much left to say about the forwards, but someone has to step up and put these chances in the back of the net. Yes, we've had some bad luck this season, but the plays are there to be made and we have to be better.

It was curious that the coaches only played 15 players tonight in a hot and humid setting where players were cramping. Arkansas played many more and looked fresher down the stretch. That was disappointing to see when we're at home. The Razorbacks have now won 6 straight against A&M and continue to frustrate our program as they have found ways to win every match despite at times having a talent deficit. Coach Hale recruits to a system and it works against teams like A&M that want to play on the ground by being disruptive and direct.

Despite the loss, A&M stands in the middle of the pack tied for 4th with 4 points. There are still opportunities to make the tournament, but the margin for error is getting smaller with each negative result. RPI stands at #97 so it's going to be a tough uphill climb from here, especially with a brutal closing stretch of matches. If A&M could find a way to finish these chances in front of goal, it would be a much different season right now.

Better effort by the team today against a tough Razorback team. Our defense was solid and worked hard. Most of the team did make a strong defensive effort.

The team had plenty of good chances to score but failed to capitalize. Some bad luck and some poor execution. There was a far better effort tonight to push the ball forward and create opportunities. If they continue with this, they will break through. Although Hayes didn't score, she came close to closing a number of times. Her work rate is exceptional and her skill very good. I do believe she will break through.

Pante had a very strong game which isn't a surprise. Smith was off tonight but I believe she will bounce back. Wilkinson was solid but has to close those chances to score when they are there.

Midfield was ok. To quote another thread contributor, " Other than Mia, the rest of the midfield was forgettable." Pounds was the best of the central group but she needs to find a way to contribute more. Leb and Bacerra will benefit from this experience down the road. Boekman (sp) is interesting. Great skill and creativity but pretty sloppy . Too many mistakes and give aways. If she can clean it up, she could be a contributor.

I don't know what to make of the keeper situation so am assuming that McClellan won the starting job. She did fine and has strong leg.

Not happy about the loss but I did like the progress.

disappointing outcome against arkansas. the players are giving it all they can. the coaches have been making adjustments/changes trying to come up with successful rotations/game plans. the piling up of 1 goal losses seem like they are so close...yet so far away from being a top table SEC team.
a few thoughts....
  • this is essentially a .500 team
  • the roster needs a true playmaking offensive talent
  • what is our style of play (i've heard we want to play possession--yet we never play out of the back; why is our goalie trying to score everytime we have a free kick?)
1-1-1 in SEC play...can we get over the .500 hump?

We have to fix our conditioning or stop playing in the heat. We can't sustain a 90 minute effort.

Either he needs better, deeper bench or they need to be able to endure these hot temps.

Arky thru numbers at us and no way we where going to withstand that.

A lot of the depth is injured currently.

We appeared overwhelmed in the second half late because the wind was in their favor. Why it was so detrimental we couldn't score in the first half. It was always going to be a challenge when the score was 0-0 at halftime. I thought they played extremely well and outplayed them regardless

To me, Boeckmann seems to have the best vision in our midfield running at goal. She seems to have her head up and make some incredible passes... they don't always connect, but the ideas are there. She also has some really crazy turnovers. More consistency would really help, because when she's on she's on.

I miss having an Addie McCain, Taylor Ziemer, Mikaela Harvey, Beth West, Rachel Shipley QB. I think Becerra has the skill to get there, but we need it yesterday.
