Why can't they pass the ball when they have an open player calling for the ball? Instead they try to dribble the ball and end of losing it.

I thought initially that Hayes initiated the contact when she stopped to cut in to the inside. Glad the ref saw it different.

Why was the red card issued and PK. I obviously do not have access to SEC+.

Hayes was charging to the goal with the ball outside the box and the MSU grabbed her arm and threw her down for the Red Card.
On the PK Hayes had the ball on the left side in the box, stopped to cut back inside and there was contact with the MSU player.

Red - a take down on a breakaway, after Hayes stole the ball at midfield, she gave it to Wilkerson who gave her a great forward pass right back, Hayes raced past the defense to the ball and was going to be 1 on 1 with the goalie.

Yellow - Sammy Smith with a great forward pass to Hayes in the box, Hayes was coming in on the left side of the box, the defender was behind her, Hayes put on the breaks to let her go by as the defender was running full speed, the defender grabbed her on the cut back in the box, the entire Miss St. team assumed the "surrender cobra" posture because they knew a PK was coming

Sounds like Denying a goal scoring opportunity. PK sounds like a foul in the box. I imagine the MSU coach went ballistic.

With respect to Mulloxag, I saw the foul in the box on Hayes the way Gap did. I will say the penalty kick was absolutely buried in the upper left corner of the goal.

I tried to watch all the game, but family duties interrupted me from time to time. As others have said, our passing was close to awful in the mid field for a lot of the game. But from what I saw, we defended well when we were near our goal. I don't remember a shot that was a really good scoring opportunity for MSU.

Tonight may have been a key moment in the season as taking all 3 points on the road against a decent Miss State squad was huge. How big was that PK call? A&M went from a tie for 11th to a tie for 2nd overall in the SEC. And now with a big opportunity on Sunday night against Arkansas (who blasted Alabama tonight), A&M has a real chance to get back into NCAA tourney contention as its RPI rose to 79 following the win.

The backline was excellent tonight, and the drop down help from the midfield was really good. The Bulldogs don't have a good offense but we did a nice job of shutting down any running lanes or dangerous crosses into the box all night. The backline communicated and played as one unit and never had to scramble to defend in the box. And McClellan got her first start tonight in goal and did an admirable job. Not sure if coaches are just trying something new or Caldwell is hurt, but she was effective and seemed comfortable. Of course, the bad news is that Calzada went out with what may be a major ankle injury that could sideline her for a long time. Thankfully we do have some depth here and could even move Mia Pante to her more natural position in the back if needed. This group is critical because we have to keep opponents to 1 goal or less to get a result.

The midfield has really struggled this season and disappeared for long stretches tonight. They just cannot keep possession long enough to move the ball up the field, which is why we are forced to kick the long ball and chase. A couple of starters struggled tonight and they've lost confidence. I'd really like to see a middle 3 of Leb, Colvin, and either Smith or Beccera and let them play together long enough to develop some chemistry. The outside mids can be interchangeable depending on matchups.

I think blake2003 said it best about our offense. It's really just kick it long and hope Maile Hayes gets a PK call in the box, or, in the case of tonight, also get a red card call to go up a man advantage with 25 minutes to play. This is the most lackluster and toothless offense I can remember in all my years of following Aggie soccer. Nobody cares that we beat 4 empty tomato cans by a combined 24-0. Against real opponents we have struggled mightily, barely averaging 1 goal a game. And if you take away the PK or free kick goals, A&M has scored only 3 goals in the run of play against these 6 real opponents. That is just sad and a real indictment against what we are trying to do offensively. I don't know if we need a major alignment change or better strategy, but it's hard to see us be successful relying on 1-0 or 1-1 ties the rest of the season.

But the bottom line is that we've found a way to get back into this season and a chance to avoid a third straight disappointing year. If we can find any type of offensive chemistry and finishing in front of goal, A&M can be a dangerous team down the stretch.

Just realized that Colvin did not play tonight. Was she on the sideline? Geczik has not played since the TCU game.

Impossible I was told on page 1 that we are slow - no way she could have raced by her

I didn't get to watch the game. Did we hear a reason on the change at GK? I have no problem whatsoever about making a change there, was just curious if the broadcast or G mentioned his reasoning.

She has started 3 of the last 5 games. 2 of those were cupcakes. No idea why she started tonight but she did what we needed to do but didn't really face any tough situations.

Our passing and possession issues are unlikely to be fixed this year. We are just not good at either.

This was a tough game to watch the play was sloppy and uninspired.

This was a huge win even though our play was not good.
Hate not seeing Colvin play. She has been great since her return. She didn't play much in the previous game.
Hate the Calzada injury. Hope it's just a sprain and she is back in a couple weeks.

Just by looking at the GF and Allowed by Miss state you could tell they are a pack it in defensive team and play kick ball

They dont allow the game to flow and always had a an extra defender back

In the second half Matula started having success by bringing the ball up from LB as that was where the space was

The defense played very well esp after Calzada went out

Very solid win

Big win on the road. Defensively we played a good game. Hopefully Calzada is going to be ok. I thought Cornog played well in her place. She didn't play as direct and played a better possession game. We still need to do a better job connecting with the midfield. Surprised to see that Caldwell didn't get the start. I'd like to hear Coach G's thoughts about the reasoning behind the change. That being said I thought McClellan had a solid game. However, I didn't like all the balls she was sending. Just about every one ended up in a turnover. I thought Leb and Pounds did a good job of controlling the midfield. Possession is better with Leb and Beccerra in the midfield, but Beccera needs to up her intensity level which has been mentioned before. You could see when the starting midfield lineup was subbed out momentum changed. We couldn't hold possession and Mississippi had us locked in the rest of the first half. We aren't getting much production from Pante and McDonald. I'd like to see Colvin and Smith get into that starting lineup. I like Wilkerson's style of play. When she receives the ball, she does a good job of holding the ball up and using the midfield. Had a great chance that she needed to finish, but I like her style of play. We are still lacking buildup in the final 3rd. It's still get the ball to the forwards and let them go to goal. Hayes had another good game. She's an extremely hard worker and makes things happen (PK). Gonna be a tough game against Arkansas seeing that they beat Alabama 5-0. Arkansas is going to play a very direct game, but it works for them. Hopefully we don't play kickball with them. Good start to SEC play, hopefully the momentum will continue.

Saw red and yellow cards on YouTube. Good call by ref in both cases. The forward had beaten the defender when red issued. The drag down was a desperation actshe probably hoped it was far enough from the goalie that a yellow would be issued. Gutsy but right call on the opponents field.

Yellow and PK was easier to call. Good win.

My wife and I were sharing my iPad during a Switchfoot concert at Strauss Square's outdoor venue. I missed the last ten minutes….heh.

Great outcome but too dependent on the other team (though I recognize she might have scored if not fouled.) I hope we find a way to plink in a goal or two more than zero per game…

It might have been an ugly win, but I certainly prefer that to a Beautiful Letdown.
