And I don't know why but it's bothering me. Like if I'd have done a better job at center it would not have been necessary….

Warned the coach part way thru the second half I'd had enough of the constant banter and to get them to be quiet or they'd be leaving. Saw the coach tell them to shut it but it continued. Other team, who quite frankly, those parents can be quite vocal, hardly said anything during the game.

Final straw was the parent complaining about a call against his team 80-yards away (opposite side of the field). I stopped the clock and told the coach "he needs to leave". Parent of course continued to call me a home team fan, which is funny bc I'm pretty indifferent to that HS.

Maybe I was just thin skinned bc the last few games as an AR the insults from the stands were actually getting personal (I can listen to "he was/was not offside" all day bc people in the stands really have no perspective and don't watch what an AR watches). But some of the personal comments were over the top. So I was probably a little sensitive.

Both ARs said I did fine and called it even (both are experienced and I've worked with them before).

Sometimes I wonder why I do this. It's not for the money I can tell you that. It was 90+ on that turf and as AR the game before I running my tail off chasing over the top balls in the second half.

Maybe it's bothering you because, relatively speaking, you were more annoyed by the insults when an AR than by the ones that the parent who was kicked out was making?

Even if that's the case, that doesn't mean that the parent didn't deserve to be kicked out. Honestly, I'm amazed more parents/coaches/players aren't kicked out for behavior that goes well beyond acceptable especially at certain levels.

It always bothers me after I give cards to players, coaches, etc. Even when I was 100% in the right.

Sorry it was a tough day. I've definitely been there.

It sounds like you are a good one. You're being retrospective and trying to find where you may have gone wrong. It doesn't sound like you did.
If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

I carded a coach last night. College game 1-0 in the 78th minute. Losing coach was arguing about an opponents throw-in location in front of his bench, meaning that it was around 80 yards from that team's goal. Sub happens and the throw-in occurs where the player runs up the line about 5-7 yards and releases the ball. Coach goes ballistic. I guess he wanted it right on that blade of grass. I caution him with no hesitation without saying a word. He continues to yell at me asking for an explanation. I don't usually get wound up but I turned and yelled back at him "Have a seat and close your mouth right now!" multiple mouths on both teams drop open like they've seen a ghost. He says "You can't yell at me" and I respond "The hell I can't. You just yelled at me. You can dish it but can't take it now?"

We keep playing and the game ends. My crew comes to meet me afterwards for the customary handshake/fistbump with the teams. The entire losing team fistbumps the referee crew. I even make sure to stop the best player that night and tell her she played a great game. Ironically, there was no losing coach in the handshake line. Guess that medicine he got back from me didn't taste too good.

Last season I reffed in Texas, I showed a yellow to a JV coach because he was not only complaining about calls but doing so with loud vulgarities (even after being warned). Next stoppage, I jogged over and told him loudly "that's enough" and showed him a card. He came onto the field and swatted the card out of my hand. So I showed him a red and told him to leave the premises. Got a call from his AD later that week. He'd read my report and wanted me to know that he was no longer coaching in the district.

I felt a little bad about it for a day or two anyway but in the end I'm glad he's not working with young athletes any more.

Refereeing soccer is the hardest in all sports. Almost every law is subjective even the most objective law has subjective language in it.

It's tough and thanks for what y'all do.

I'm really not sure how we will manage HS starting in 2025. It's expected that 3A schools will be playing. Nit just playing up in 4A but a full set of districts and eventual tourney.

It will kill the rural HS ref chapters. They will get requests to cover games they have no prayer of covering. I'm already dreading it.

And of course it will be full of bad players and even worse coaches and parents.

Oh my. The worst player on my daughters ECNL -RL was district defensive MVP in 4A. I can only imagine how bad that play will be.

Hurling is a much harder sport to referee and it's not really close

I'll take your word for it. I know nothing about it other than you play it.

But the only rule for any ref is not be a lazy fat guy out of position all the time
Sounds like the OP puts in the work so he deserves to kick some people out

Society generally has degraded, idiocy like this is just more evidence.
What's amazing is that even though these stories continually make news, there's a new idiot every day to fill the void,

How many 3A schools do you think will adopt it that haven't done so already?

. My watch says I ran 10-miles Saturday for the two games I did (AR for 1st game and center for 2nd game).

My watch says I "ran" 4.3 miles in a women's college middle. I usually set it to outdoor walk anyway, but i wonder if I hit outdoor run if that'll change the distance. I know I "ran" more than that in the game.

Got to watch a kid get knocked unconscious last night.

Two players going for the ball, 3rd decides he's going to split them, gets hit by his own player, face plants into the shoulder of a much larger player, lands on his feet, goes right to his knees and his eyes roll back and he drops to the turf.

Blew the whistle and immediately called for the trainer. Resource officer on site immediately calls EMS.

Trainer gets to kid, starts check his vitals, etc.

EMS Fire Dept shows up and, gotta be honest, they sure took there time WALKING from the fire truck to the player. I almost yelled "how about a sense of urgency for the unconscious player laying on the field!". By that point the kid was awake and responding to commands from the trainer, but still.

Ambulance shows up about 2-min later, bring out stretcher, make sure the kid is stable and take him off the field and away in the ambulance.

I talked to the coach whose player was hurt and he "Saw the whole thing, nothing you or anyone could do!".

Only ever saw that at a varsity football game but I was in the stands.

What a wimp. I got knocked out from a flying elbow that broke my nose my senior year. When I gain consciousness, I got up, ran to the sideline and was taking another kid's jersey so I could sub back in. That was when the coaches told me I was done and that my face was an absolute wreck.

On the paramedic side, we were often told during training to walk (very quickly) to the patient rather than run. Allows you to keep yourself clear and under control from adrenaline when the tones go off.

Last year, there was an accidental collision between two girls on the same time as they closed on one of our players. When one of them hit the ground, it was immediately apparent there was a serious issue. The ref almost caught her and he immediately recognized the issue and blew the whistle. I've never seen anyone more terrified that he was at that moment.

The girl cracked her skull and start convulsing at the hospital. She was life flighted downtown and in ICU for two days. She's back but that scared the **** out of me.
