you can't let up in the EPL anymore. the stratification of results is so great between the top teams and the lower teams that every goal counts.

plus it's professional sports. it's their job. do your job Sheffield.

I honestly think it's more disrespectful to pull starters and play keep away by just passing the ball around.

Both teams ought to come up with new goals when the game is out of reach, but I don't think the winner should ever stop trying to score just for the sake of appearances.

ETA: I wouldn't be surprised at all if Newcastle explicitly said "hey let's see how many different guys can score" - and good on em for trying. It helps not only with GD but also it helps them figure out ways to get more players involved in the attack which might pay off down the road when they actually need it.

No idea. Technically they have him until 2028. I would assume most contracts have clauses that allow for fines/docked pay in relation to certain bans but who knows. Also find it interesting his surprise exit from Milan. Makes you wonder if Milan knew this was coming and effectively kicked him out?

I have read multiple reports on the subject. Newcastle are looking at reducing his wages during his ban. They are also hoping he can still train with the team.

Lastly if Milan knew about it and withheld that information during the sale I would assume Newcastle has grounds for a legal filing against Milan.

I have a hard time believing Milan didn't know...

1. It is extremely uncommon for Italian players to leave the Italian league
2. Tonali has always been talked about as one of those guys that will stay in Italy forever
3. There were never any rumors of his desire to leave Milan or Italy before news broke of the sale
4. Arsenal inquired about him the summer before and his/Milan's answer was to sign a contract extension

Personally I think Milan caught wind and told his agent that he had to get out of Italy to avoid potentially larger penalties. In reality they were trying to cash out while he had any value and saw the opportunity to take advantage of a club with new filthy rich ownership.

We will see how it all plays out. But I tend to agree with you.
