It's Thursday - and in the SEC, that means it's Game Day!

Texas A&M faces Auburn at home in Ellis Field tonight at 6PM. This game will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.

And now I have some quick facts for you:

Like Texas A&M, Auburn was undefeated when conference play started, then the SEC hit... Auburn is currently 9-2-1 with a 1-2-1 conference record. The lone conference win was a 3-0 decision against Mississippi State. Auburn is winless in their last 3 matches: LSU (T 0-0), Ole Miss (L 2-3), South Carolina (L 0-3).

Auburn have outscored their opponents 34-9, but have been outscored in SEC play 5-6.

Junior midfielder Bri Folds (#4) leads the Tigers in all meaningful offensive categories. Folds has 8 goals on the season including 3 from PKs. She also has 6 assists on the year. Junior forward Treva Aycock (#28) has 5 goals and 5 assists of her own.

Senior Sarah Le Beau (#14) has logged all 12 starts for the Tigers. She's allowed 9 goals while making 39 saves. Auburn has 7 total shutouts on the season.

Texas A&M is 5-3 all-time against Auburn. Last season, the Tigers won their home match against the Aggies 1-0.

It was the win over Auburn two years ago that put us into the NCAA Tournament. Auburn was a #4 seed that year and ended up losing to eventual national champion USC.

Should be a hard fight game with the lack of success from both teams. Auburn has been hot and cold in SEC play, would be great if they were cold today. Would like to see a first quarter goal from us tonight and another Fightin Texas Aggie Shutout.

Ags win 4 - 2!

Good win, although the defense gave two break-away goals and we stopped a 3rd. Ugh!

Harsh red card and is ultimately a 3x penalty

Goal
Kicked out of game
Misses next match

Not a fan

Their very athletic forwards really sliced up our defense, but we capitalized on our opportunities offensively.

Still got out played for much of the first half though.

Caught the game right at the red card but we had a 3 to 1 lead at half and got dominated?

Confused by that

It was a weird half, we got 2 goals super fast then just kinda went on cruise control. That was maybe the fastest second goal we've ever gotten.

BOOM! Got it done!

And that really did look like a handball on that Auburn girl with about 23 min. left. Her hands were down before it was kicked at her, she lifted it, looked like it hit off her right wrist which was against her upper chest, and then she flicked her hand back down real quick.

Looked like a good call to me.

4-2, beeches!

Ref would have needed a police escort if he gave them another red.

Sloppy game. Good result.

Still a lot of issues passing to no one. Unforced errors from the back line. We've got a composure problem that gets maginified on the road.

But some great goals, a couple of nice saves on the night, and a resounding conference win.

Technology is wonderful as we were able to pull the replay immediately and confirm the PK (looked like a pair of handballs actually). We relayed this info to the opposing coaching staff.

Auburn is much better than I thought as they have a lot of quick athletes that gave us fits. Their offense is very good and really had the backline on its heels most of the game. A&M was fortunate to start fast with 2 good goals in the first 3 minutes because Auburn really dominated the 1st half. The 2nd half play went A&M's way as we settled down and completed more passes and set up more shots on goal. A&M had something like 10 of 13 shots on goal. I don't think I've ever seen that type of efficiency out of an A&M team. However, Auburn outshot A&M on the night and had a few 1v1 opportunities late that Morche saved. So 4-2 was a harsh result for the Tigers. But kudos for A&M coming out strong early and getting the early lead.

A&M continues to struggle with basic passing out of the back and midfield, with several terrible giveaways in our own half, all of which resulted in shots on goal and a goal. That is the same reason we were eliminated in the 2nd round last year to ND. I really don't understand why we continue to do this game after game. Why are the coaches not teaching them to keep the ball on the outside instead of the middle when you are under pressure. Always make mistakes to the outside, never the middle because it's easier to defend mistakes near the sidelines. Piper really struggled tonight and probably shouldn't have been playing with her injury anyway. She had several of those turnovers which set up Auburn chances. McCain, Bates, and Asdis did just enough in the middle to keep us in control of the game in the 2nd half.

A&M also continues to show a penchant for passing back too much, even in the attacking third for some reason. Sometimes you pass backward to avoid intense pressure or to set up a long cross into the box while on offense. But when you pass backward for 3 consecutive passes and put yourself under pressure, or ruin an opportunity to continue to go forward on offense, it just doesn't make sense. We need to go forward more and make opponents tackle us or take the ball away, which usually results in a foul anyway. For example, when Bates started running straight at the defense with the ball, it stretched the backline and forced them to commit, which in turn opened up space to pass into or take a shot. We are so much better when Watt and Bates run at the defense instead of always trying to play the perfect pass or get trapped wide in a corner or give up and pass backward. The other issue that continues to nag us is the lack of touch on passes forward. So many balls kicked too far out in front of players. We have got to take some pace off those passes to give our forwards a chance to run onto it.

I honestly don't know how good this A&M team is because they play so jeckyl and hyde game to game, and even half to half. When we play to our ability and complete passes and complete chances in front of goal (which we did at times tonight) we can play with anyone. But when we play tentatively and don't win 50/50 balls, make poor passes in the middle of the field, and don't create many shots, we really are very average. Thankfully we play at horrid Kentucky on Sunday so maybe we finally get a win on the road.

You could see Grace wasn't right from the start as her kickoffs barely left the ground while they normally loft to give Ally a chance to run under it. Jimena had a big day with a nice story about her in the Bryan Eagle today and 2 goals tonight. Their keeper really missed the ball to give us the second goal. Surprised to see Rheagen play so little. Never felt comfortable with a 2 goal lead because of the way Auburn attacked.
