I think at this point, it would take a donation in the form of establishing an endowment. That is how schools like Oh.St and Stanford are able to afford so many sports.

Get the endowment established that funds the sport, and you've solved 90% of the problems.
They are working on this for football. IMO they TMF will do,this for every scholarship offered

That would be the smart thing to do. Pretty soon when they have to up the ante with stipends...having scholarships funded will put us way ahead of the curve.

I tweeted at the account about shirts they were selling but haven't gotten a response.

A&M would without question have a Top 25 men's soccer program in a few years. The amount of talent in this state is overwhelming and these kids have no where local to play top level soccer. Hopefully we can figure it out. Plenty of guys from my state ODP team didn't even play in college because they wanted to stay closer to home. Sad really.

Amount of talent in the state does not equal automatic success, football proves that.
Also the best soccer players in the country (on the top 25 teams) are willing to attend and play at schools out of state. If your ODP mates that stayed home were top 25 quality they would have played somewhere out of state or at SMU.
I'm not saying the interest or talent isn't available for A&M, but be careful saying they will have an instant Top25 program.

It's simple. The kids currently going out of state, or opting to either not play or play for a D2/D3 school, are the ones who will instantly put A&M into the top 25.

I think the men's team would compare to the girls team, which is typically top 25 drawing from Texas talent.

How many D1 schools play men's soccer

IMO, a team of guys that had D2 and D3 offers will not put them in the Top25. Some of the posters on this thread mentioned they would have played at TAMU, but they didn't want to play at the small schools that offered them. So you're saying TAMU would be full of D2/D3 quality players.

I would love to see a men's team and would most likely be a season ticket holder as I am with Women's, but don't say the team will be Top25 immediately, that's not realistic. In nearly every sport, the best players in the country want to play for schools with a documented history of winning in their sport.

Over 200, twice as many as D1 football.

I think you're underestimating Texas soccer. No one is saying that all D2/D3 players would populate an A&M team.

We are saying that there is a large population of division 1 players, who currently go out of state or stay close to home and star for a smaller school, who would go to A&M. Yes, I am saying there are some D1 talents playing in local D2/D3 schools because they chose to stay in Texas, and that a few of these would play for A&M. I could bore you with lots of anecdotal evidence.

This article refers to Texas being #4 in terms of producing division 1 players even though we only have 3 D1 schools. And if we had 20 D1 schools we would have far more homegrown D1 players (because there is a population of players who choose to not play soccer instead of going to Massachusetts.).

Who's to say it wouldn't compare to Texas' women's team? They draw top talent in Texas too.

Also, much of the very top women's talent in Texas go out of state, I would imagine that would be true for the men's game as well.

I still think A&M would have a team frequently in the top 25 within a few years. I don't think they'll instantly become a top 10 team like the women though.

As a former ODP player myself, I'm not underestimating anything. Just saying I'm not as quick to assert a day one automatic top 25 team. I hope one day we can find out and you can prove me wrong.

In fact, I would venture to say if the school felt they would field a top25 team on day one, expansion opportunities would have already been researched.

Unfortunately it's all hypothetical, in terms of how strong the men's team would be. I can't wait to see it someday.

Whenever I see articles like this, I just shake my head. Of the 12 Dynamo academy players who signed LOIs, only 1 stayed in Texas. Put a third of those kids, plus a few Dallas and Austin and San Antonio players on A&M and it would be solid.

My son had offers from Oregon St, U of Memhphis and a bunch of schools that didn't have engineering.

He wanted to stay in Texas and was offered a roster spot at UTD. He loves it and is having the time of his life.

Coming out of high school I had a few offers from some D3 schools but I came to A&M becasue they had a degree I wanted. That being said I would love to see mens soccer come to A&M.
