This is long. I get pretty reliable info about Ark from a buddy that is definitely in the "in" crowd with the big money boosters. He sends me pretty good updates on the situation. Here's an interesting email a timeline of events for what the hell is going on up there. Pretty informative. The names in the email (Lindsey, John White) are all pretty big boosters. Frank is Broyles the AD and legendary coach for you young ones. Sounds like a healthy work environment.

quote:
1. John White tries to fire Frank, Lindsey saves his job, becomes very involved in program. Frank is beholden to Lindsey. Lindsey has newfound leverage.

2. Dec-2005-after Indy bowl-Nutt, realizing the next two years will be bad, has Sexton put out feelers. Nebraska bites, comes calling,Lindsey intervenes, negotiates Nutt a substantial raise and promises him a two year pass.

3. 2005-First Southern Cal debacle-board and White meet after game, some want to take action, Lindsey stands firm, says he made a promise and will not break it. Nutt has two years.

4. End of season-2005-Wittke is the sacrificial lamb, several candidates are considered, Malzahn emerges, Nutt wants to hire him as a receivers coach but retain the OC job, Gus says he won’t take the job unless he is the OC and calls the plays, Frank/Lindsey make Nutt hire him under those terms.

5. 2005-spring practice-Gus is not well received by the existing coaches, Gus does not like the existing work ethic he observes, begins going around Nutt and having dialog with Lindsey about some things he encounters, feeding Lindsey info, Lindsey begins to change his opinion on Nutt. It comes to a head when Gus threatens to resign, Frank calls a meeting of the coaches and said Gus is in charge of the
offence, anybody that doesn’t like it can hit the road.

6. 2006 season-the coaches really believe they may beat Southern Cal and tell Frank as much, but McFaddin gets hurt, and Dick goes down, and the team commits five turnovers. The coaches become real scared about their jobs. Nutt had been told he has to win eight games.

7. Nutt and Frank meet-several things-Frank said Robert is not a quarterback. Nutt said Frank made him hire an OC and his passing game wasn’t working and he wants to go with the running game, Frank himself had concluded that the offense would not work in the SEC, so CRITICAL MASS #1 OCCURRED-Frank quit backing Gus and let Nutt have back some control of the offense. The team starts winning, there is a continuous struggle for control of the offense, Gus complains to Lindsey that he is not getting control, Lindsey tells him to be patient, he will get him that if not this
year, then next year. Frank is firmly behind Nutt now.

9. The South Carolina game-Mitch is benched. Many fans thought it was because of the book, but in reality the coaches think Dick is the better QB, his arm is stronger, and the players like him better. Houston got his 8th game, knew his job was secure, and took more control of the offense.

10. Two more wins, more control of the offense switching from Gus to Nutt, Gus complains to Lindsey, who can’t do anything about it but says be patient.

11. By the bowl game, Gus is really discouraged, Lindsey negotiates a raise and contract extension, but Gus asks about control, Lindsey says I’m working on that. Nutt has won ten games and transformed from a guy on the ropes to a guy totally in charge, with Frank in his corner.

12. Lindsey is out of Nutt’s corner now, is looking for a solution to the problem, Nutt would like out too if a good job comes available, some feelers but nothing materializes.

13. The springdale gang go directly to Frank, who gets real upset and lets it be known that Nutt should fire Malzahn over this. Lindsey and John White get wind of this, approach Frank about retiring making room for Nutt to be AD, Frank will have none of that, hits under the belt, says he knows where all the skeletons are buried. CRITICAL MASS #2-Lindsey loses leverage over Frank that was gained from saving his job.

14. Gus wants control before signing the contract, Lindsey can’t deliver.

15. If Parcells retires, David Lee may be out of a job, so he calls Frank, who suggests to Houston he might be a good addition to his staff, Houston, always accomodating to Frank, begins thinking out loud about it. Houston has never gotten over the Gus hire and seeks ways to further diminish his role.

16. CRITICAL MASS #3-Gus meets with Houston and is told his role on the offense will be less. He gets wind of Lee sharing the OC position, realizes that he will not be in control of the offense and takes the first job that comes available.

Does Teresa deny that she originated the email to Mustain?

Teresa has admitted to sending the email. The only thing I can figure is that Mitch copied and pasted her email into a new email that he sent to his mother.

tlittle96, thanks for posting that timeline. The situation is crazy. In that environment, it's amazing that Arkansas rebounded like they did after getting trounced by USC.

It just always cracks me up everytime I see that assumption on the Simms situtation. If that really is how the general public perceived how that all went down...from someone that was inside the program all 4 of Simms years I can say she is badly mistaken.

Horn fans are a biq cause of that perception. I've heard that same rant from so many of them it's ridiculous. Maybe you know different but your fan base hasn't done anything to change the perception.

Amazing how a 10 win season changes things. All this came about because of the parents meeting. If the Hogs don't win, then the emails would have been supporting Mustain's mom.

All of this is amazing..... Reminds me of my favorite Hog story...

Just a little background... My dad and wife are both alumni of UA. In the 80s/early 90s, I used to follow Hog basketball (given our level of success???). The wife and I went see the Hogs play TCU in their last season in the old SWC. The Hogs schooled TCU in the first half (behind Mayberry, Miller & Day). The Arkansas crowd proceeded to stand up and start cheering SEC, SEC, SEC, etc... This was the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard at a sporting event in my life. My respect for TCU fans grew leaps and bounds when the sea of purple (they had a decent crowd) all stood in unison and waved goodbye to the arrogant hog fans. What a moment!

The Arkansas crew thinks they are everybody's stepchild and the world revolves around them. It is a mess up there.

John White is the Chancellor of the University, not a booster.

I am a Razorback fan. I don't usually do the message board thing. I migrated to this board because I was looking for the infamous Mustain e-mail. This situation is a public embarassement for the whole program. After reading this I believe there should have been more of a public apology from Nutt.
I don't know why this woman thinks she has the right to make these kind of personal attacks. I agree with the two posts which sum it all up; "WOW" and "What a Mess!"
