First, a good hire for UNT. Dodge brings instant publicity to a program that is lacking in that area. And a good move for him, because the HS to D1 direct hires have all been bumpy (ND's Gerry Faust and UNT's guy from Marshall HS), so he is lucky to be given the chance without having to go the asisstant route.
UNT needs something to get it going, but there is no reason they can't be a Marshall (the college) from a few years back or a Boise State. But they have a ways to go (and Dickey was not getting it done).
Lastly, Southlake has D1 talent. Not mega loaded talent, but they have a few athletes. While I believe SOuthlake capitilizes on its assets better than anyone, the notion that it is just a bunch of hard-working white kids is not the ENTIRE picture (not that race is really the issue here). They have superior facilities, superior gamefilm capabilities, superior assistants, the "stacked" senior high concept borrowed from Plano, and a tremendous "system" that is replicated at the feeder schools. I give SL credit, but lets not make this sound like they are all in an unairconditioned gym in the summer working out. I live nearby, and trust me, everyone is well taken care of.
By the way, is Hugh Charles from Keller or Southlake?
