OK well I realize the game has changed a bit, but WAY BACK before national championships were even given (mythically or otherwise).....

1917 AND 1919

In both years Texas A&M went undefeated (8-0 and 10-0 I believe) but even more amazing even in that day, neither of those teams WAS EVER SCORED ON.

Not one single point, no late cheap scores, no FG's not even a safety.

Closest games were against tu, both were won 7-0.

Those were the first 2 DX Bible teams (he did not coach in 1918).

1991---came off a 65-14 thrashing of BYU.
ended up 10-2. Should have beaten FSU in the Cotton...we were better than they were and they knew it.

The same team that tied lowly SMU and hung on to beat Rice 7-0 at Kyle Field? Seriously, do some more research before posting again. The 1994 team was good, but if you want to start with say 1990 for example, the following teams were better than the 1994 team: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998

By the way, of the modern Aggie teams, I would go with the 1991 team, followed closely by the 1993 team. The 1993 team was good enough to win it all.

Hey mchensel, remember how Rosy Higgenbotham could run back then? Not a bad punter either, averaging over 50 yards a pop.

1917 A&M 270 opponents 0
1918 coach Bible & majority of team beat the krauts in WW1
1919 A&M 275 opponents 0
1920 A&M 229 opponents 7 (tu)

oh so close in 1957. after it was known bear was leaving, we lost our last two games and the bowl game by a combined total of six points. wtf? national champs for sure if he would not have bolted to bama.

Over the last 20 years, definitely 1991 Team

The defense was one of the best I have ever seen. There was no weakness. Great DL, Amazingly BIG and FAST LB and great secondary anchored by Kevin Smith and Patrick Bates.

DL - Eric England/Mark Wheeler
DL - Lance Teichelman/Pat Henry
DL - Sam Adams

LB - Quentin Coryatt
LB - Otis Nealy
LB - Jason Atkinson
LB - Marcus Buckley

DB - Kevin Smith
DB - Chris Crooms
DB - Patrick Bates
DB - Derrick Frazier

The offense while one dimensional was dominating. We had a a group of nasty OL that were peple you did not want to mess with. They liked getting into mights more than anyone I have ever seen. Obviously a natural born leader at QB and two great RB's that were redshirted in 1990. WR's were a little weak, but that was because we never used them.

OL - Chris Dausin
OL - John Ellisor
OL - Keith Alex
OL - Greg Lakin
OL - Dexter Wesley (I think they were the starters)

QB - Bucky Richardson
FB - Doug Carter
TB - Greg Hill/Rodney Thomas

TE - Greg Shorpe
WR - Tony Harrison
WR - Billy Mitchell

K - Terry Venetoulous have no clue how to spell
P - David Davis

That was a team

ha ha....yeah rib me all you want. And I'm only 40, but I know my aggie history and teams that are never scored on are hard to beat (literally and in this type of best of poll).

Best old days teams:
1919 10-0 unscored on
1917 8-0 unscored on
1939 11-0 national champs
1956 9-0-1 tied houston ranked 5th
1957 8-3, 8-0 before Bear announced leaving lost last 3 games by total of 6 points
1920 6-1-1 lost to tu 7-3 and tied LSU 0-0

For modern teams
1985 10-2 team, 4-2 vs. ranked, only losses on road to ranked teams, won Cotton vs. Auburn ranked 6th
1992 12-1 only loss in Cotton Bowl to ND ranked 7th
1994 10-0-1 that dang tie to SMU ruins it ranked 8th
1993 10-2 ranked 8th
1987 10-2 loss at tech and #6 LSU at home, ranked 9th
1976 10-2 ranked 7th

Rocks, then there were the days of Roper & Wallace. Holland.

Clutch Corrington was one of the best in the secondary. Not the most athletically gifted, but got it done & often when we needed it most.

Domingo Bryant was scary his first year, but settled down thereafter and was pretty darn good.

Kevin Smith has to go down as one of the best ever.

Jacob Green, on a good day, was an absolute monster. But he tended to play to the level of the competition.

Childress wasn't quite as spectacular as Green, but was much more steady.

Sammy O at noseguard is hard to forget.

Don't forget 1975 !!!
Emory Bellard's Aggies beat the #5 teasippers 20-10 in Kyle Field, and cinched the SWC Conference - at least a share of it. We went to the hills to play the Hogs, undefeated at 10-0 and rated #2 in the nation.

The Hogs outscored us, and we tied for the Conference title. Hogs beat Georgia in the Cottom Bowl. We faced USC in the Liberty and got outscored.

We finished #11 in the country, 10-2, and Co-Champions of the SWC. Our success carried into the next year: 10-2 and #7 in 1976.

1975-10 starters on the D played in the NFL and 2 were all pro (Lester Hayes/Pat Thomas).

I believe every starter except Nealy, Atkinson, and Teichelman played in the NFL, and most of them were fairly high draft picks. 4 1st round picks I think (Adams, Coryatt, Smith, Bates).

Opposing offenses were more concerned with not getting hurt than they were moving the ball on us. As was said before, this defense had no weakness.

The '94 team - are you kidding! The same team that tied SMU in the Alamo Dome?

'98 was the only good team in the RC era. None of the SWC teams count at all!
