Bonfire...without reservation.

Bonfire is something special only to Aggies. A national championship can (theoretically) be enjoyed by someone affiliated with any school. Except ours. Unless you count softball in the '80s. But I digress...

Also, for consideration:

I've read a few complaints about a "watered-down" Bonfire. Consider that in it's final years, Bonfire was considerably "watered-down", at least in terms of sheer size, from what is was in the '60s. But we all loved it nonetheless, right? So supporting endeavors now (whether on- or off-campus) is an understanding of evolution and realizing that it ultimately will evolve into what we want it to be. Probably a little more flexibility with the off-campus bonfires, though...

No true Aggie would say MNC. In fact if a so called Aggie said they would prefer a MNC to Bonfire and i heard it, i would slap him in the face.

Growing up in CS spoiled me to that wonderful tradition. I have truly missed sharing that experience with my son.

Bonfire will never be student run, student built again. The danger outweighs the benefit. I worked on bonfire in 93 and 94. There is no way that I had the experience or training to be up on the swings at Push, but I was there anyway. A professional built, supervised, student aided bonfire is the only one that makes any sense at all.

By the way I would rather have a MNC any day. Bonfire was very important to a small percentage of those on campus, a MNC would be something every student and Alumni would talk about.

Are you guys serious? this is a joke thread, right? you would rather have one night of watching wood burn, making memories, etc... than have an undefeated national championship season? I give up.

No Bonfire ever. There is no way it can erase the memories of the three who's grave I passed by.

We won't get an MNC without a bonfire? Some of you are insane. How many schools without a bonfire have won an MNC? Quite a few. Obviously it is not an prerequisite.

I'll take an MNC. And I attended at least a dozen bonfires. It was a lot of fun, but it didn't win football games. Practice, coaching, dedication, lucky bounces, etc. have a lot more to do with that.

Bonfire was much, much more than "one night of watching wood burn"...

I can't believe that a single person who was ever actually involved with Bonfire would say MNC.

If you think Bonfire was only about watching wood burn or tu you are a great example of why we need it back.

Every student? Even those graduate students that barely speak English and couldn't recognize a football versus a beach ball? Not that they all care(d) about Bonfire, but I think you're downplaying it's importance to A LOT of people.

And by the way, we don't have "Alumni." We're called "Former Students." It seems like it's just semantics, but for those of who are, it's much more...

my question is where would they put bonfire on campus? it seems to be working just fine off campus, the university isn't liable, so why not run with it the way it is now?

if they brought it back to campus it just wouldn't seem right to have it back at the polo fields...with the memorial there, and the ever-lingering memories of sitting in that field all day back in '99, it would be hard to get into the true spirit of bonfire.

perhaps somewhere on west campus would be more appropriate.

This is an unfreakingbelievable question...I'd take a MNC over Bonfire six days a week and twice on Sundays.

Despite what some revisionists would have you believe, Aggie spirit was never defined only by the planning, building, and burning of a stack of logs, and that annual event WAS NOT what set us apart from other schools. There is much more to our great school than one outdated tradition.

I'm a proud member of the Class of 1988, the first class EVER to beat tu ALL FOUR YEARS. I worked on Bonfire in each of those years, and I enjoyed the camaraderie of that special time as much as anyone, but times have obviously changed and it ain't coming back. Hell, I've heard some infer that the reason we can't beat tu anymore is because we don't have Bonfire...WTF???

Many of us here have experienced Bonfire, but none of us have experienced our school winning a MNC. Which would truly mean more???

I have to say Bonfire.

Although I may be slightly biased as I worked on it every year from the rebuild year of 1994 to 1999.

Like I said, I have experienced both and in my lone opinion, I still say Bonfire.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." The words of Jesus; John 16:33
