He really does Read some of those emails.... at least the guy under him does.

And I like how he goes to the sports and isnt afraid to walk in the crowd and shake hands and be noticed.

I've been a big fan of Byrne since last year when he basically told the ISU softball coach to shove it and he encouraged us to keep up the heckling.

Tell your son to hang in there. My HS Freshman son proudly wears his Maroon Out shirt at least once a week, even though some of his teachers, are tu grads and occasionally give him grief. Sometimes, adversity is a great teacher.

Kudos to Mr. Byrne, if he does follow through.

My 7 year old son proudly wears his A&M gear and could care less what anyone else thinks. You have given me some ideas though, and Byrnes email may get loaded up with requests soon.

umm, no. its not the kind gesture that bothers me. and jsut b/c the helmet has been used in a game doesnt mean its worthless. you do realise that dont you? what i'm saying is how can you say that ticket prices need to be higher b/c the AD is losing money but then be giving away expensive equipment to people just b/c their kids are depressed that the team has played poorly? especially when an autograph on a picture or a program would have sufficed? the poster siad they didnt even ask for it. hell, even a football is cheaper than a helemt. Its highly hypocritical to say you losing money and then give stuff away.

Just to bring balance to the universe, I have to say that when I was growing up in CS (during the dark days of Texas Football) I was harrassed relentlessly by all the A&M kids at school.

Hell, I even remember my elementary school crossing guard (an A&M student at the time) talking trash. "Pee-you t.u.!!!" she would say after the ags won. Which was just about every year back then.

Oh well...thought maybe memories of your good ol days would lift yalls spirit a little.

Kentatm is a bung-hole.

Dude, lighten up a little. It was essentially a charity-type gift. Companies and individuals do this stuff all of the time. People even do it with their personal finances. I don't know how many times my wife and I have complained about needing to put more money in savings or wanting to sink more money into an investment, but can't do so because things are too tight.

The very next day, however, it's no big deal to put an extra $20 in the plate at church or buy an few extra boxes of Girl Scout Cookies or spend money on some worthless candle that the Little League kids are selling.

IT'S A FREAKING FOOTBALL HELMET, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE. It's not like Mr. Byrne arranged for an autographed Lexus to be sent to the kid. Geez...







Great story, by the way. I am THRILLED that we have an athletic department staff that is interested in this sort of thing. If it means they have to spend $75 from time to time to make a young fan happey, then I'm 100% behind the idea.

I remember a story either posted on here or websider where a TAMU current student emailed Byrne about how to become an athletic director. The student hoped for at best a short email response but instead got a 2 hour face to face meeting!

We give Byrne alot of heat for the ticket prices and whatnot but he truely cares about both A&M being successful and the "little guy."

Bill does do the little things right. Alot of times he will e mail you right back, even for just a short e mail like "hang in there". All of you complaining about him must have forgotten what things were like under Groff. Groff didn't give a crap and brought us such wonderful things as Reed Arena and the ice rink around Kyle Field.

I had a similiar experience with Bill Byrne when trying to get a birthday gift for my good friend.

This was Fran and Bill's first year and the Spring game was right around the corner. I had sent Bill Byrne an email but was unsure if I'd even hear anything back on it. Bill personally called me at work to apologize for his delay in response. He asked if my friend and I were planning on making Spring game and invited us to sit up in the press box. Bill actually met me at the elevator to hand me our press passes personally. Unfortunately, all the big money guys wouldn't give Fran a rest so he was late getting to the box but we did get to ride down the elevator with him.

Sit tight Ags. None of us know what's going on, but have faith that Bill doesn't stand for losing and will fix the problem whatever it may be.

I also sent an email just trying to figure out how to get into the sports business. His personal secretary called me and scheduled time for me to come to lunch with him at Cain Hall (for free) and speak with him and the head marketing guru Jeff Schmahl (sp?).

It was unbelievable. And then to make it better, a few weeks later while eating dinner at a small restaurant, he came up to me and said hello. He remembered my name and everything.

Irregardless of what some people believe about him, he's a very personable person, and an unbelievable businessman. I look forward to seeing all of his handiwork.
