Gang, this is important....

When do you officially become old army?

I feel like I'm somewhere in the middle.

The incoming freshmen were in middle school when I started at A&M....Do I qualify?

How many more days til 9/3?

undergrad, but you have to wait about 5 years after graduating to be considered "old Army"..............then again any class that was here after Bonfire and never saw Bonfire...........is" new Army" and not worth mentioning to me.

I think anybody who went through the Corps immediately becomes Old Army after their fish year, because nobody ever has it as tough as they did.

04,

20+ means 25 and up..........freshman are usually 17 and up so yes, she is still a kid.

Hell juniors who for the most part are 20-21 years old are still waaaaaaaaaaay inmature.

I understand what you're saying but wouldn't twenty five and up be 25+ ?

Well I am '05, I have seen helped build 2 Bonfires and watched 3 burn.

I was Ol' Army since my second year. Anyone who wasn't around before Bowen left, never was in the 12th man when R.C. was coach or doesn't remember a time without the "rocket" yell is New Army to me.

Since I have been here there has been:

New president
New football coach
New basketball coach
New baseball coach
2 dorms closures
2 new buildings
insane tuition hikes
3 glorious Bonfires

I think it's as soon as you graduate.

I've been 'Old Army' for 5 years now.

In my mind, when you start complaining about how terrible things are now compared to when you were a student... THEN, you're old army.

OLD ARMY FIGHT!

Another '05 Ag protesting the earlier comment about Bonfire. Some of us students (and recent grads) are still born and raised Ags who remember all of the glory of Bonfire and still mourn its loss like it was still 1999. Hell, some would have called me Old Army before I ever actually attended A&M. I certainly consider myself so now.

Look what you started. This could go on forever until the oldest living Aggie from class of 1932 or so settles it and declares himself the "real" Old Army.

I'm '01 and look at what my brother, '05, went through and I feel like old army. But if you were ever in the steam tunnels you will realize that every Aggie for the past 75 years says Old Army is going to hell, class of '45 or '65 or '85...

Old army, when the Gumbies were green and RC was the coach - might have to be in the corps for the gumby reference, don't know

No one with "0" as their first number of class year should be considered OLD ARMY. Hell, the 90's aren't even that old army.

The distinction between "Old Army" and "New Army" is really misleading. The real dividing line in A&M culture is August of 1963. At that time the the Board of Regents approved the admission of women and the change of the name of the university from the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas to Texas A&M University. They also approved a plan to make the Corps voluntary in fall of 1965. Thus the Classes of 1963 back to the founding of the school belong to the "AMC Era" and the classes of 1964 forward to the present time belong to the "AMU Era". Each "Era" had its own culture, traditions, and attitudes. Some, not many, of the traditions from the AMC Era survive (albeit in modified forms) to the present time. Those members of the AMU Era have developed their own culture, traditions and attitudes. Many members of the AMC Era have a hard time relating to the present day student culture. To be fair about it, most members of the AMU Era probably have the same problem with the culture of the AMC Era. So in reality if all comes down to when you attended A&M and what you did while you were here. We all see the place through the lens of our own experience.

I once met an Old Ag in an airport and he shared this story with me....to me, you become Old Army when this applies to you.

"My Grandpa graduated from A&M and when my Dad was attending college he told him that Old Army had gone to he**. My Dad defended it but when I started school, my Dad told me that Old Army had gone to he**. Now as I set and listen to your stories, I will tell you that Old Army has gone to he**." ~ Unknown Ag

Now that I have graduated I tell newbies that "Old Army has gone to he**".....when you feel this way, I feel that you are Old Army!

Although in an honest answer to your question, someone once told me that you were truely Old Army when the fish class of your graduating year graduates....so for me, that would be not until the class of 06 graduates. That is my two cents on the matter.

You're officially "Old Army" when you complain out loud about the empty seats on the East Side upper decks at Kyle - or about orange water coolers.

I guess I qualify on the first one.

I always heard that if your ring doesn't say A&M College of Texas (like mine)you are not Old Army.

Although it saddens me to say so, I have to agree with AG62 and abat51.

I came in in '65, just after the changes. By the time I graduated in '69, there were more.

And since somewhere in the mid- to late '80's, I hardly recognize the place I had gone to school.

So, I accept the fact that I may not be "Old Army" by that definition. But we '69 BQ's believe we are.

One Southwest Conference band director of the (Adams) era reportedly said "I dread going against the Aggie Band...It takes two weeks to recover from the trauma."

ABAT and AG62 are close. If you didn't wear brown shoes in the Corps, you are 'New Army'.

I felt that old army went to he** when I was a freshman. Does that mean that I was old army at 18?
