True but in 2000, OU did have 4 conference wins over top 10 opponents (#11 whorns, #3 KSU, #1 NU and #8 KSU).

True, but a mediocre A&M team hammered that ksu team and that NU team didnlt even win the big12 north. the big12 south was nothing like it is now. tech and osu have both stepped it up a notch since then. that makes the run much more grueling. and now A&M is in the mix.

It's Fran's 3rd year. You guys hammering on Fran before his 3rd year would have missed out on our decade of domination because you certainly would have runoff Sherrill after his 3rd year when he went a mediocre 6-5. Fran did better in his 2nd year than Sherrill did in any of his first 3 years and Fran is in a much tougher conference. Geewhiz, thank God the internet wasn't around back in 1984.

In 2000 OU had a season that no one that I know can ever remember seeing!! Not 1 starter missed even 1 game!! If you're a true football fan, then you'll understand the phenomena of that true fact. No one can remember it ever happening in over 100 years of college football and it may never happen again!

I'm convinced RC is to blame for the orange water coolers.

Wait - are you saying we can't win with RC's recruits? Wow. Who's recruits did we win the Big 12 with in '98?

You're right, because RC was recruiting the same calibur players in 2002 as he was in 1995. I don't know why we ever fired him.

didnt he already deliver a better bowl than rcs last 5 seasons.

Change that to 4 and you have a point I think.

And IBTL. I wonder if the RC/Fran debate will ever end.

When Fran actually delivers on the promise he showed at Bama.

He took a huge step last year, this year has to be step two.

Schedule is a lame excuse because we are better than evryone on our schedule outside of two teams.

Fran won at Bama playing at night in Baton Rouge, Knoxville, and Fayetteville.

He better be able to win at Clemson, at Boulder, and at Manhattan because we will have the better team in all of those cases.

We have no excuse not to be 8-0 heading into tech.

I'm too lazy to look it up, so humor me. Who are these 17 seniors, their positions, and current backups (or current starters if the senior is not)?
PJYoung

Jason Carter
Reggie McNeal
Jesse Woods
Aldo De La Garza
Jami Hightower
Tydrick Riley

Renuel Green
Lee Foliaki
Archie McDaniel
Nurahada Manning
Jaxson Appel
David Ross
Johnny Jolly
Bryant Singleton

14 off of the top of my head

Oh yea, Dominque Steamer
Ronald Jones
Todd Pegram

I totally forgot about these 3:
Boone Stutz
Dequawn Mobley
Lawrence Hooper

I would expect just about all of them to play a major role this year.

he said 17 returning starters, not 17 seniors.

when you factor in the road games things change.

playing on the road is not easy, and is certainly much tougher than playing at home.

1. record in last 5 years in lubbock vs tech 0-5, at kyle 2-3
2. 3 games in norman against stoops, 6-51, 10-31, 0-77...3 games at home; two losses by a combined 10 points and 1 win.

just from those two series, you can see the huge difference playing home and away makes.
take a look at all top 25 teams and you will see that most of their losses come on the road, and many times to teams ranked lower than they are, or even unranked.

just being better isn;t enough. you have to play better and overcome other factors when on the road.

Simplistic: wouldn't you say we had a great chance this year if we played our 5 worst opponents on the road and our 5 toughest at home?

Schedule matters Mighty Kyle. Duh.

mighty kyle, its tough to win with no secondary. we're paper thin back there right now.

Ridiculous.

If Fran had anything close to the talent on hand that those three coaches had upon arrival at their schools, then you would have a point.

But he didn't, and you don't.

Nice try... but come on. So the coaching bar hasn't been raised over the past couple of years? Oh... I also forgot Mr. Sabban. Ask Mr. Wilmingham & The Zooker if the bar has been raised or lowered.

We have the talent on this team to run with the big teams. I didn't say we were going to beat OU or TECH on the road. Anything short of competitive 4 quarter games will be unacceptable - we are not the same team as 2 years ago, and outside of Utah and UTENN we were in all the other games to win. Go check your head and get off my back -

we SHOULD be able to play with the big boys, but remember what turnovers can to an otherwise even match up....

if I'm not mistaken, USC destroyed OU in part, due to turnovers....it happens many times a year

look no further than a&m/cu last year to see how a team can dominate and lose solely b/c of to's.

rcbo5, better read his post underneath his topic. He states that we are losing 17 Sr's also.

The following Sr's will be important to the success of our team this year: Boone Stutz, Jason Carter, Dequan Mobley, Riley, De La Garza, Reggie, Pegram, Jolly, Greene, Foliaki, McDaniel, Manning, Appel, R. Jones, and Singleton. Steamer probably will not play a big role. That is 16 of the 17 anyway.

There will be plenty of available excuses for 2006 in the form of 17 Srs gone from this year’s team

My point was that there are many seniors that are not starters ..... while the loss of some will be great, we have some depth coming on.

From a Longhorn, so qualify it as you will.

All in all, RC was a good coach, not fantastic, but solid. The Fran supporters who bag on this man are doing him an injustice IMO. Fran may have more potential, but he really needs to start showing it off rather than setting the bar so low that when his squad performs to their potential it seems like a leap. Reggie is a very good player and you have some other players who have some talent out there as well. (While I know this next statement is hard to quantify) I believe the squad doesnt look like they are playing as a team, but rather a bunch of individuals. That is just my perception, agree with it or not.

got1forya...TEXAS has been starting around 4th or 5th in the country and finishing there...I know it is fun for Aggies to say TEXAS chokes..but they really aren`t...They finish about where they start in the pre-season...looks like the BOMC is about right on target...

ANY team in the top 10 has a good shot at winning it all...It doesn`t mean they are under performing when they don`t...I don`t recall TEXAS starting out number 1 any time recently...

I also feel A&M is making good strides and is getting closer to TEXAS and OU sucks in talent, however their not there yet...

Up until the last 4 seasons he was here. He was getting completely pounded in recruiting by mack brown, nick saban, bob stoops among others. That 4 year period is the reason he got fired and also the reason we have been so bad the last few years. The last few junior and seniors classes that he left behind that are supposed to be the backbone of ball clubs have been for the most part extremely weak and non contributors. You can say he was solid all you want, but that would basically be like me an A&M fan saying john macovick was solid back in 1995 to you.

We have 18 seniors on this football team on scholarship, which is the most we have had since I have been here

And we will have that many or more seniors on scholarship EVERY YEAR from here on. Do you have a point?

Congratulations. You've outdone the sheer stupidity of your first post.
