Ah ha! Yep, know who you are. Will never forget landing in Austin IFR for the 1976 tu game on T+1.

"I'm looking at the insturments, you look out the window and let me know when you see the runway".

We break out at about 300' AGL, and the biggest thing below the Mooney was....

....a parking lot.

Seconds later, the runway appeared, but I was wondering for a second there.

This was my first trek to the Cotton Bowl. It's horrible. My guess is the sponsor (SBC) would jump at the chance to move to a new stadium. That dump has gotta go. I am only 5'9" and my knees actually touched the seat in front of me when I sat down. And the speaker problem is indefensible. That was torture.

Here's an idea, move the Texas State Fair to the new stadium in Arlington! Whoop!

I may have missed it but noone has mentioned that they had to paint the grass green. It didn't even look right and my suspicions were onfirmed when both teams ended up with green paint all over their pants and jerseys.

I've always heard that the playing surface is actually very good. It's not unusual for stadiums to put some paint on the grass due to it being winter.

As for the City of Dallas, there is not a more incompetent city government in the nation. They are all whining, belly aching morons. They're so worried that one faction of the city is going to get something over on the other that they can't ever agree on anything.

I find it comical that Arlington stepped up to the plate and now the mayor is so eager to "fix up" the Cotton Bowl because she's seeing those dollars heading out of Dallas. I personally have a problem with publicly funded stadiums, but they should have let it go to a vote and let the people decide. It's the ultimate in arrogance.

The Cotton Bowl is a dump...But I am glad Laura Miller didnt cave in to Jerry Jones. Yes the Cotton bowl game, OU/tu, super bowl will go to The new stadium in Arlington but the taxpayers are paying for it not Jerry. Where do you think those people are going to stay and eat?....Not in the La Quinta and Chili's in Arlington. They are going to Stay at the Adolpheous and Magnolia and eat at Bob's and Jerobaum. All the benefits none of the cost....sounds like a plan to me.

dallasag: If you really think Arlington taxpayers are going to come out of pocket for all of the public money going into Jerry World, then you're kidding yourself. The sales tax will be paid by everyone that buys anything in Arlington (lots of people shop at the Parks Mall for example), and Arlington has $0.05 lower tax rate than Dallas because it does not belong to DART, so they will only be equalizing their taxes. While I can see the argument that it was a bad deal for Dallas (they couldn't have used sales tax to finance it) that doesn't mean it was a bad deal for Arlington.

I sat on the lower deck, 40 yd line, row 35'ish behind the Aggie bench. My clear view of the game was what sucked the most. I wish I would've been stuck in traffic or something.

DallasAg, I disagree. While Dallas will still reap some rewards, there will be tons of people that will be glad not to fight the traffic in Dallas and will stay in Arlington and Ft. Worth.

As for Laura Miller caving, she is a condescending b*tch. As I stated earlier, I am not for publicly funded stadiums, but my problem was that the city couldn't even come together enough to let the people of Dallas decide. It should be their decision and not Laura Miller's or the idiots on the City Council. And as for "the deal", if you look around the rest of the country, Arlington actually got a good deal when compared to some of the other publicly funded projects.

I never said Arlington got a bad deal. I know Jerry pumped in half.

But countless studies on these public funded stadiums show that the economic return is no were near the advertised amount. Devolpoment often does not come ie: the ballpark in Arlington or whatever its called now.

As far as the high rollers in town for the super bowl they may indeed stay in FTW but they will not be staying in Arlington.

Nebraska or Kansas St fans ,for the most part, will not stay in a Ramada Inn of I-30. Arlington does not have the Hotels, Restaurants (other then the ones they can eat in Lincoln) or nightlife..it is not a destination city. You are right they may stay in FTW and not Dallas but Arlington will not get the lion share of addt'l sales tax revenue.

-Texas, on the other hand, might not leave if Dallas were to spend the money they are talking about on infrastructure improvements. Making the cutoff for OU-Texas tickets is probably the biggest incentive that the OU and Texas athletic departments can dangle in front of season ticket purchasers, so the scarcity issue at the Cotton Bowl actually works to their benefit

You aren't that familiar with Deloss Dodds are you? That guy is all about the benjamins. They are looking for a corporate name to put on their b-ball arena now. They give up a home game (80,000+) every other year for half of the Cotton Bowl. Why would they stay in the Cotton Bowl when they can make more money at a better stadium, with more seats, more luxury suites, better facilities, etc. Jerry WILL get that deal done. I wouldn't be surprised if they are already working out the details. The Cotton Bowl will move, OU/tu will move, Dallas blew it.

walton: Basic economics--more seats does not necessarily mean more money. Scarcity allows UT to wring more out of their customers in the form of Longhorn Foundation contributions than they would make having a few extra seats to sell at $100 a pop, or whatever it it they charge. Keeping a large number of ticket holders in suspense regarding their status for OU tickets creates an artificial price floor in the middle of UT's pricing structure--remove that, and they might actually see a decrease in net contributions.

When Jerry Jones calls with his checkbook open and asks "what will it take to get you boys to play in the JerryDome?" You think OU/tu will be better off financially staying in the Cotton Bowl?! My bet is they take the extra seats, concessions, parking, luxury suites, etc, over Fair Park.
