It seems the Ags pretty much agree on who is good and who isn't, excepting who the best team in the conference may be (I don't agree with Nebraska, but it isn't too much of a stretch to think so).
and then there's Bear Face, who is either trolling with A&M at TENTH in the conference, or simply needs an ESPN intervention.

I'll go with:

OU
tu
A&M,ttu,OSU,Neb (TIE)
the rest

Also, I don't think tu is that much ahead of us, and we do get them at Kyle. A&M could step up, but we have a brutal road sched.

Reasoning: OSU lost a LOT of close games (much like we did). ttu has our number, and tu's at times. Neb finished ahead of us, and they are recruiting well. We have good potential, but a brutal road sched. tu lost some great players, but they can reload with their talent. Also, they have proven that they will be a contender.

NU loses 10 starters. Four of them on offense including team leader, Zac Taylor. They lose 6 starters on defense including their entire DL.

Plus the NU/MU game is in Columbia this year

ok, so rank 'em today Strongbad...
Here's my 0.02

1)OU- Everybody keeps saying they are going to fall apart, but it never seems to happen.
2)tu- They keep reloading much like OU. I think McCoy will statistically dip but will be much improved.
3)Nebraska- Sam Keller will be adequate and the defense/running game carries them. I think this may be the most entertaining game of the year for the Ag nation.
4) Texas A&M- Rough schedule makes this season tough to call. I say 8-4 (5-3), 3rd place in South and a mid-tier bowl win. Losses to ttu, ou put a nasty aftertaste on the season anyway.
5)Oklahoma State- They are still under a lot of people's radar, but A&M's scare in Stillwater should make them take the game this year seriously.
6)tceh- Harrell will someday eclipse Kingsbury in prairietard folklore.
7) Kansas State- Ron Prince had the team moving in the right direction at the end of last year. I think it will continue. Could win the North if Nebraska isn't as advertised.
8) Missouri- Solid team with Chase Daniel back, and they challenge for the North title, but fall short.
9) Iowa State- Gene Chizik makes some strides and gives Ames reason for hope.
10) Baylor- I want to place them 12th on GP, but they seem determined to play hard and go down fighting under GuyMo- that earns you some wins.
11) Kansas- Some impressive showings last year, but I don't think they make much noise.
12) Colorado- Dan Hawkins will probably turn it around, but not this year.

ou? no qb, no AD-- not too likely #4
tu- mccoy a good qb if he stays healthy-- all bets off is they win in dallas- nice schedule in november #1
NU- nice schedule set-up #2-ags at home
ags- #3- better team tougher schedule
tceh- #5- still no defense
then everyone else

still South heavy overall

South is gonna be tight again, but I will go with Plano guy on the "yesterdays weather" theory. 'cept I see colorado higher in the north, possibly pressing 3rd

You do realize that Adrian Peterson only played in 2 of the 9 Big 12 games, right? Yes, OU loses Paul Thompson. Whoever wins the starting job out of Joey Halzle, Sam Bradford or Keith Nichol will be a good deal more talented than Thompson, they just won't have the experience. That being said, whoever wins the job will have better OL, WR, TE & RB corps than what Thompson had in 2006.

I'm not "writing off" Nebraska. I think it's going to be a very close race between NU & MU for the top spot in the Big 12 North.

As for Keller, he's a headcase. Prior to last season when he was at ASU, he was named the starter and half the team went to the coach and told him some things about Keller and the players didn't think he was a leader. So Keller was demoted, he got made and transferred. Now he's already gotten into trouble at Nebraska. If you ask me, I'd say he's a lot like Bomar....a lot of talent but not much brains or leadership.

Jumpmaster...so you think OU is overrated by three spots and tech is one spot worse than I had them. Other than that I don't see much dissent. I still think there's a virtual consensus on who the players are this fall.
Where a lot of posters seem to differ on is who is #1 (who wins the conference), and I think it's OU (again). Not only do they still have tons of talent, their schedule favors them over A&M and tu. Thoughts?

I don't get it. OU has zero QB's with significant game experience and a majority are picking them to win the conference? I'm not saying they won't be good but why do so many believe they will be championship good? . Thompson was a leader with pletny of experience and plenty of credibility with his teammates. You can't just plug someone in and expect everything to go great.

Thompson didn't have much experience at all. He started exactly 1 game at OU and that was the TCU loss in the 2005 opener. Other than that, he sat behind Jason White and Nate Hybl.

Tech plays the Whorns in Austin, not @ tech. Those of you who think Texas in the 4th best team in the south are drinking the kool-aid. Also, OU loses both the starting QB and RB, as well as most of their studs on defense. No way they should be considered the favorites.
I say:

1. A&M
2. tu
3. OU
4. Tech
5. Some pretender from the north

OU lost a very average QB. They did lose Peterson, but remember he only played in the first 2 of OU's 9 conference games. Peterson's gamebreaking skills will be provided by Demarco Murray. As for defense, I would not say that OU lost most of their studs. They did lose both starting DE's and two LB's but return all DT's and Secondary.
