After which game did Elko say he hoped that narrative was now put to rest? Was it last years Notre Dame game?

If it was then Elko's a bigger idiot than he appears to be.
Marcel's completion percentage in the Notre Dame game last year was 46%

It's all about winning and the team won. Bucky had a career 48% completion percentage and threw for almost twice as many picks as TDS over 46 games against SWC foes at A&M and fans revere him. Marcel led the team last season to a better record than Bucky ever did under Jackie/RC in the SWC.
It's Reed's misfortune that A&M isn't as overwhelmingly dominant everywhere else like in the late 80s.

Bucky was a run first option QB, and he was 100x the leader, competitor and athlete Reed is. Comparing Buck passing stats to Reed is immaterial.
I'd take Calzada on his worst day over Reed, that is how bad Reed is.

I don't believe Bucky had a 48% career completion percentage. He was a decent passer and that was only a part of his contribution. Heck he played in the NFL.

Okay, I looked and that is correct. It's hard to remember the days when 60% was an incredible accomplishment. The top passer in the SWC reached that level but no one else. I checked Favre in 1989 since we played Southern Miss in 1989 and he had 54%. Completely different metrics.
Even this year. Give us a competent QB and we're 6-2 at least.cords12 said:
Last year's team was absolutely LOADED with talent and the easiest schedule in decades! Give us a slightly above average Quarterback instead of Reed and the Ags play Indiana in the National title game.

I also saw Bucky as a great leader and stiff arming the hell outta dudes trying to tackle him.

Bucky made plays.
Reed throws the ball into the dirt and laughs on the sidelines.

Even this season Marcel is close to 10% more accurate than Bucky's career average.
Bucky averaged 45.5 on the ground and 66.1 yards through the air with a 48.4 completion % while throwing 14 TDs to 23 picks over 46 games. 111.6 total yards per game against the SWC. Over 4 seasons he only had to play against 4 other conference teams that finished the season ranked, which undoubtedly helped bump him to over 100 total combined ypg.
'87 No one else
'88 Arkansas and UH finished 12 and 18
'90 Texas and UH finished 12 and 10
'91 No one else.

Bucky had mostly mid to bad career stats against horrific competition but gets a ton of credit for the team wins, while Reed has far better numbers against vastly superior comp. but gets a ton of credit for the losses.

According to AI this is what he said after the win at Notre Dame.
"Hopefully, you guys won't have to ask me any more questions about whether or not Marcel can throw. That's what I really hope comes out of this win."
