I've been saying since last night, I'm not offended personally by Elko's comments, I even agree. But I'm shocked by the stuuuuuuuupidity and tone deafness of the comment.
TexAgs is the loudest PR mouthpiece for A&M football, outside of winning games. His idiotic comment simply reaffirms his terrible judgement in roster management, coaching hires, and scheme implementation. Now we have to worry about his thin skin and verbal impulsivity? A head coach needs to:
1. Hire good coaches
2. Recruit
3. Manage the roster
4. Implement/coach scheme
5. Glad hand the donors and offer a degree of fan service
The guy was obviously failing on 1, 3, 4 which puts #2 at serious risk. Now he's exacerbating the failings by being a PR liability? So, so stupid.

It wasn't the comment itself, it was what the comment exposed about him. And it's going to be very hard to put the worms back in the can because the only way to do that is win and he has major issues with that.
The cesspool comment combined with the everyone is going to give up on you comment from a few weeks ago, makes me wonder if he is intentionally trying to drive a wedge between the players and the fans. It makes no sense why he would do it, and it's most certainly a bad idea, but it seems like he might be trying to do something like that. Maybe he thinks of everyone hates them, they'll come together.

On a slightly different note: I wonder if this will affect the freebies that Elko enjoys from various business contributors. While the statement drives more eyeballs to this site that they may advertise on, conversely, what is the incentive to continue doing that for someone that isn't getting it done on the field and denigrating some of them off the field.
