The "I never wanted us to hire him in the first place" jokers are not only LYING through their teeth, but they were also surprisingly quiet after the Notre Dame win, after the 11-1 season, after the playoff bid and on anything pertaining to the lights out recruiting. Funny how that works.

Personally I like Elko. This Aggie team has underperformed. We have seen how the fudge is made. Down year and we all knew it was coming. So question to you who are malcontented, who would you rather have, and how quick would this board run him off?

Elko was a good hire at the original discounted rate as long as we accepted he would be an up and comer which at least half our fans think is better than paying market rates (or above market like Texas does.)

We definitely whiffed on our generational overpaid hire. Though it was an attempt to rebottle the Jackie fragrance and arguably worth a try. Jimbo sold that he understood Saban's "process", but clearly he forgot to take notes.

I understand some of our fans want to get in a DeLorean and go back to the amateurism era. It still mostly exists in Div III and somewhat in the Ivy League in Div I. But paying off the bonds on the Western campus and Kyle prevents that self-loathing choice…

If the combination of Wiggins & Reed go out there Saturday and we see zero change to the offensive philosophy, then he's lost me.

If Reed is benched, Wiggins is relieved of his play calling duties, or at the very least we come out and the plays we attempt to run look significantly different, then I'll give him another week.

Mike Elko took us to the playoffs last year and got us to 11 wins!

Brother we used to play in the big 12 and swc. Those schedules couldn't have been easier. And we got to 11 wins once in each league.

That's a sad indictment of our program. Elko and the Ags did beat all the .500 and below teams last year and one good team (ND). So I give him credit for not losing to a crap team like Iowa State or SMU. I was happy to win 11 games. But it sure didn't feel like 11 wins in '98 or '12. I only down play it with respect to our current predicament cause it gets used as some incredible feat.

Elko is paid millions of dollars to win football games, and criticism comes with that compensation and responsibility. Fans have every right to question performance, decisions, and accountability, particularly at a program that demands enormous financial and emotional investment while consistently failing to meet expectations.

Blind loyalty isn't strength, demanding accountability isn't cowardice, and attacking the people asking legitimate questions doesn't make you a better fan. It just makes you an apologist for the very mediocrity everyone is tired of.

Not a single person predicted the probable 4-8 that this year is looking like. There is a huge difference between "taking a step back at 8-4/7-5" and "what the hell? This team isn't making a bowl game. Is this coach losing the locker room?".

I really liked the Elko hire. Thought he would steadily improve the team and take us to the next level. Unfortunately that next level is downward.

I don't know who we would replace him with this year. I don't want him replaced unless we lay an egg against The Citadel. Then I'll know he has truly lost the locker room and needs to be gone.


He'll start next year on the hot seat, with a range of heat based on his offseason coach/player decisions.

Anything less than 6-6/7-5 next year should be all that's needed to cut bait.

If Elko can keep the recruiting classes together, I'm not worried about this season.

Nobody could have foreseen Marcel completely forgetting how to throw a football. Not sure how much of the regression can be the fault of the coaches. It's just basic things that he can't seem to do.

With NIL and the portal, you're always one class away from a great season or an awful one. Every season is a chance to be great.

If this happens again next year, I will start to question.

For now, I'm at a 9. Also, keep Wiggins one more year. The plays are there.

I did and was 100% for Elko, but with his stubbornness to make a change at QB and the promotions from within, I'm out.

I'd love to see him turn it around & be successful here

You know what? I'll support him. I just don't care that much anymore. Tired of the 4-5 year cycle. Just let the contract run it's course and don't put any more extensions in unless a conference championship and/or playoff run is achieved.

Elko isn't the problem its the OC, QB coach, Marcel. We should've never promoted within; we should've reached out of our program and snagged an OC. Elko needs to stop hiring his friends and hire winners

I think he made promises and is standing by them
He will learn from this and understand he cant make these promises to transfer guys and guys on his team
This is definitely his biggest learning year as a head coach

you cant win with out a competent QB. QB is struggling with the new OC and it brings the confidence in the team down.

The defense was abysmal against Kentucky & lsu

The offense is definitely terrible.... historically bad even.... But I don't know that blaming the offense for everything is accurate

It's the Jimmy and Joes, not the Xs and Os. We lost so much talent and either could not replace it or our replacements fell short of what we needed. Part of this was on account of the amazing talent that even under the best of circumstances would be hard to replace (our Beef Curtain and Concepcion for example), part was misjudging the talent of 17 year olds and how it would look at the college level and part was just flat out missing out due to better offers. Elko may not lead us to the playoffs this year but I don't think any other coach could either. I ask again, who would you hire in his place?

I'm almost done with him. His handling of the QB situation and general roster mismanagement is atrocious. If Marcel Reed starts this weekend, he's officially lost me. This is a perfect opportunity to try Hart and see what he really has. There's no logical reason to not do it.

Marcel will start. I don't think there is any doubt about that.

The real question is will be play past the first or early in the second quarter? He shouldn't. We should either have a big enough lead you want to give your second team reps or he's sucking against Citadel and we should move on.

Unfortunately, Elko has proven he's stubborn and I have a confidence level of about 75% that Reed will still be in to start the 4th Q.

I'm done with him. Year 3 and his decision making is horrible which has led to the abysmal team on the field. I get it we are stuck with him. But he treats this like a good old boy ( I hire loyal people) kiddy day care (coddle the kids feedings) vs a 45-50 million dollar business (our NIL budget) where hard decisions are made. Wish us luck.
