I will always hope any A&M coach will figure it out and turn things around, but I see little reason to believe that will be possible. After we go 4-8 this year, there will be no hope at a national championship under Elko. You don't come back from that. Would love to be proven wrong, but history shows I won't be.

I was dubious about the hire from the get go. He was mediocre at Duke.
Then he got here, beat LSU, shot his mouth off and proceeded to fall off a cliff.
Last year an absolute meltdown by SCAR kept November from being another free fall but still managed to look completely impotent against the sips (again) and Miami.
This year speaks for itself.

But after his comments today, he's squandered any remaining goodwill and benefit of the doubt. He absolutely sealed his fate today.

Lost it. I thought he had the ability to demand performance and make the hard calls needed. He clearly does not. Keeping Reed defies any explanation at this point.

If he makes the effort to get a top OC and a top transfer QB (while holding onto the top talent on the team, the recruiting class and filling the gaps from graduation) then it's worth seeing what he can rebound with (and learned from his mistakes). If he stands pat I am done.

Oh I think he's here for another two years unless he follows up this years 4-8 with another 4-8 or worse next year.
But make no mistake, you don't have to ride the ride, much less watch it closely.

This will be Elko's shank year - head coaches like Saban established CFB dynasty's prior to transfer portal and NIL. Whole different aspect now with recruiting and retention. During the 2026 offseason (as we're likely heading to the toilet bowl) If he can:
- Hire the right OC
- Get competition for the position of QB (including transfer portal potential)
- Take over calls/ plays on defense and shore up the defense, and
- Get us back to at least 8-4 record in 2027
My faith may still be in Elko (barely) but very disappointed this year with his coaching hires, lack of getting any QB output/ offense change, and defense looking porous. Smh.

I think he has 2 more years as well. Egos are large and the money is real, especially after Jimbo. Time for Elko's ego to be checked.

I will stand firm that NIL is and these over paid teenage kids who think they are set for life after 1 payday

There are not a lot of coaches out there who can navigate this

I think he can and will but it's going to take a few more classes to find the right mindset in kids that get paid and still perform

Don't think there is another coach out there that can do better right now (that we can get)
The good ones aren't going to leave anyway
And any up and comer coach has no clue what type of kid he is dealing with that gets paid millions vs playing for a chance to play in the NFL

I support the team. The head coach doesnt need my support. He is paid to make OUR team into winners.

This is like the scene where Don Draper has to scream "Thats what the money is for!" at Peggy Olson except for the part where they were actually being successful.
