Actually Elko himself is on incredibly thin ice if this season continues as-is…more so than many understand.

Why do we have to wait until the end of the season. IIRC, a long time ago Dino Babers was demoted after two games and Sumlin started calling plays. Do we have anyone else on staff now that can call plays?
At this point I would seriously consider let the quarterback call plays or maybe the running backs coach. RUN THE BALL!

If you don't think offensive coordinator matters look at Florida. They went and got Buster Faulkner from Georgia Tech. They are a top 10 team after only winning 4 games last year. Faulkner was regarded as one of the best up and coming Offensive minds and is doing it again at Florida.

This. I'll keep repeating. We are so predictable. Every team in the SEC knows we're passing on 2nd down. Owens, for all the criticism he gets, has been pretty affective getting 5+ yards on 1st down. Then, like clockwork, Reed drops back on 2nd and throws one in the dirt.

Reed would ball out if we let him call his own plays. Let him play his game.
There's no one on staff (IMO) who could take over as OC/playcaller. And we're not going to bring in an entirely new OC in the middle of the season. IF (in caps) we make a change, it'll be after the season is over. So buckle up because we're stuck with what we have.
Brian Schottenheimer might be available in a couple of months.

Rush for 7 yards on first down 3 possessions in a row then throw 2 incompletions and punts. That's how. Run the ball. LSU was not stopping it. Wiggins was stopping it.

Your focusing on one factor alone....There can be more than 1 thing wrong. The play calling has been atrocious. Continually abandoning the run when your averaging about 6 yards per carry to try to have your struggling QB prove to everyone he can throw. That's 100% an OC problem.

We'll have to let this season play out first.
However, regardless of how bad it "might" be, Elko will not be fired at the end of the season knowing what we know today.
Not going to happen.
However, I expect Trev and Elko to have a come to Jesus meeting at seasons end if we continue down the crapper.
However, next year the heat will be on from game one as it should.
Our running game was working until Wiggins kept calling pass plays for a QB that is inaccurate and kill the drive. The game would have been closer if we had kept running the ball.

Well when it is second and 2 you don't have to call play action with Marcel.
I wish a buck was still silver, it was back, when the country was strong.
Wiggins needs to run the ball until Reed proves he can pass again.
Currently we can't tell if Wiggins is any good because the passing game is horrible.

The time to get a quality OC was last year. We should know by now that quality coordinators don't take sloppy seconds from a lame duck coach. This is the point where a HC has to take a chance on an unproven guy not when he's coming off a playoff appearance.
We should be thinking about what coordinators we hope the next HC gets.

We arent getting a new oc without a new hc. This staff is cooked unless they make some big changes that actually work.

Lots of pre snap motion, heavy emphasis on power run game, and not afraid to throw.
