I wasn't feeling great at 24-20 going into the 4th. felt like they'd outplayed us to that point.
Did we change something on defense or just wear them down?

Both sides of the ball are worrisome. They had multiple methodical drives where we just could not stop them. The turnovers were great and well timed, but we were in a dogfight going into the 4th.
I really like ASU's offense. That offense with top talent at a top football school would be something to see. We wore them down, but I was impressed.
Go listen to post game Elko presser … he said ASU had looks and leverage that they were adjusting for and finally settled in in mid 3rd qtr.
I think we'll look back at ASU's offensive production for the year and be pumped we held them to 20

Game was weird as hell. We got beat in every statistal catagory other than turnovers.

I'm miserably pathetic because I want to get to the playoffs again. This offense compared to last years is night and day! SEC play is gonna be a very bumpy ride.

Their QB threw for 254, 2/2 61.4 rating
ours threw for 163 yards 3/1 53.4 rating
I am glad Marcel went 3/1 over 2/2 but I doubt anyone watched that game and thought Reed was the better QB.
Their ground game went for 115 yards on 4.0 ypc, while we had 92 yards on 2.6 ypc. That is terrible for us.
Yes, we won the game - and you should never apologize for a win.
But looking forward from this game, we had 2 defensive TDs that were both somewhat freakish and unlikely to easily repeat week to week. We were gifted field position by a muffed punt and an idiotic fake punt, neither of which are easily repeatable.
So when I watch this game, I'm happy we won, stunned we covered easily, but worried looking forward because we won this game through means that are very hard to repeat week to week.
We gave up 189 yards receiving to a guy that is good, but probably not as good as many we'll see throughout the year.
My guess is that pretty much every predictive tool would take the stats from our game and give us a small win, based mostly on turnovers.
I'm not going to argue that we didn't deserve it or something asinine like that, but if we play like that every week - without the dumb plays by ASU and the 2 crazy interception return TDs - we are probably looking at a 7 win team. I think that is a fair criticism.

They may have muffed the punt but the team was in position to recover. The stop on the fake punt was a great play by Mikhail, splitting the block and taking the TE down.
The offense struggled mightily but the defense and special teams were solid.

DB's adjusted to the pick routs that Devil receivers were running in the 1st half and we started to get pressure on the QB in the 4th qtr.

Winning the turnover battle, playing good special teams, and not being penalized go a long way.
Yall tell yourselves what you want, but we are not a good football team right now. We have no offensive identity and now flow in our play calling. We cannot sustain drives consistently, the run game is plodding and has no juice, and Marcel refuses to take what defenses give him and is way too inaccurate. Run D is solid, but We can't consistently get pressure on the QB. Secondary is good when they don't have to cover for 5+ seconds.
We were on the ropes in the 4Q before we made 2-3 huge plays to put them away. Kudos to our guys for getting it done, but that performance won't beat UK, LSU, or hardly anyone else in our schedule.
Good news is that we can improve. We know Reed can be better than he was today. The OL was improved today. The receivers are talented if we can figure out how to get them the ball. Hopefully we can develop some kind of identity and idea of what we want to do on offense other than just run some plays and hope things work.
If Marco can keep developing and Saka can get his ankle healthy, maybe we can develop a consistent pass rush, or else Elko is going to have to start dialing up some more creative blitz packages.

What you said is absolutely true, but we didn't force the muff on the punt. It just happened. Being in the position we were in makes little difference if he catches it cleanly.
We forced a turnover or two but what do you do when the other team isn't as reckless? The pick on the sideline was a poorly timed throw. I like that we made all those plays and again, you're right that being able to make those plays are a plus, but we have to play better on offense and the traditional defense. Depending on big plays and special teams errors by the other team isn't going to win championships. Playing well the entire game wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

plus the offsides penalty in the 2nd quarter that gave the Ags another 3rd down attempt -- instead of punting. It led to Reed's first TD pass
