Speed kills, especially against ASU. Now LSU, you have to mix more power and speed.
For gods sake KJ runs a sub 4.3 and Baker is pretty damn shifty. Has to be more run options than 2 yards and a pile push every series.

Doesn't matter until that line gels.
Why does it feel like everyone else can give their super talented freshman more playing time in meaningful parts of the game and we can't seem to do that. KJ and Baker should already be getting more touches.
It's a bit baffling that coaches continue to play Owens as starter. Is he blocking better?

I like Morrow but his blocking hasn't been consistently good (trying to be nice). Last year, I thought he did better than Owens in the run game, this year? Not so much. I'd like to see KJ and Baker get more reps earlier with the ones (admittedly, I haven't paid that close attention to those two's blocking prowess though).

Someone needs to tell our qb to let the big back take 5-6 yards per carry when the defense only has 5 in the box. Decision making is more of an issue.
Might be due to his pass catching ability. Marcel needs a checkdown guy. But if he only comes in on passing plays, it'll tip the defense off, so he has to be in on running plays also.
4 will be out there the first offensive series. Elko loves him

7.3 ypc for KJ today on only 3 tries. The thing about Baker and KJ tho is teams know they don't know what to do in pass protection yet so if they are in the game it's likely a running play . Having said that maybe that's an invite to cross em up.

In Zoo world.
You have to judge RBs by more than their yards per carry. Morrow whiffed on a block that directly contributed to one of our early punts.

Elko is an old school coach that always defaults to the older player first as to not have them check out. He knows it's a long season and we may need several backs but he is giving Owen's every chance to succeed before having a younger player take over.
Owens will start and get the most touches, even if we don't like it.

Just give Ownes the goal line carries to let him have the glory and keep him happy while Morrow carries the heavy load.

Bench Owens, start morrow, change of pace with other backs (ie play them more than others)
Slow developing run play calls probably aren't helping things.
I was just looking at individual stats for this game where every back except Edwards had less than 4 ypc and thought to myself this post would exist anyway just because. I've always thought Owens was a good back but I'll confess he doesn't seem very explosive so far this year. The reality of the stats is all of them (excluding the fish) are mediocre OR the O-Line isn't very good right now. I'm going with the latter.
Unfortunately Owens hasn't taken the step he needed to this year it seems. Morrow has more shift and looks a little more explosive. Baker and Edwards are the future. To me, from the little we've seen from Edwards… feed him the rock. The kid is down in a hurry.
KJ should be RB1. Abundantly clear.
There were HUGE holes today that Ruben just can't get through fast enough. He turns 15-20 yard runs into 6 consistently.
Neither Ruben or Morrow are difference makers in the SEC. Edwards seems to have that burst you need against elite defenders. He needs to be the guy

He needs to quit with the stutter-stepping. He ends up tripping himself up 90% of the time.
