I'm interested enough to post this, but this is a rant on my growing lack of interest, and the demise of the sport I used to really love: college football.

I loved our TexAgs football board and it was an important part of my day - no matter the time of year. Some would say "get a life" I guess.

Well, I have:
- I can't remember when I last opened a post here, much less posted one.

- I find I can't really stand to watch the sports shows

- I turned on SEC Now and listened for 20m. I realized the TV business people that run the sport have what they've always wanted: the top 10-15 teams that practically never change make for lower costs. They set story lines for these teams starting jn Feb and hit the "play" button starting in late July. The narratives are very scripted, predictable - and boring. The episide I watched covered the top 10 teams with A&M at #8. I waited to see what they were going to say after the scripted glowing comments for the top 7. They literally skipped the Ags! Not one point made. They went to their next darling team.

- And now I guess athletes can go pro and return to college, and have 25, 26, 27yo playing against 18 yo?

Now that we're paying athletes to put on a FTA jersey, why would we care or track what is going on in recruiting? They come and go depending on the highest bidder. What does that have to do with being an FTA student?

I will still watch the games if I don't have other important matters. But I don't really care about the outcomes any longer. That feels really weird.

Maybe I'm the only fan left that liked it much better before. We have gained some things that increases $$$ payouts. But we've lost alot, too. Today's game is a shadow of what it used to be when there was at least the perception of diversity and regional cultures. The college game now feels like Jerry Jones lite. Gag.

Not here. I'm about to drop $500 for two decent seats for the Citadel game. And I'm driving back to Austin the same day so I don't have to pay $400 for the Save Inn.

Many years ago, I wanted a hunting lease. Discussed with my wife (also a former student) and she told me to choose between that and season tickets.

I chose hunting.

I have some semblance of a chance to impact the outcome, at least beyond being loud as hell at Kyle.

I have not regretted that decsion but I still watch every game that I don't have to pay to watch.

I still attend games at Kyle. I have yet to pay Jerry to watch at the Death Star or travel to other SEC schools since we joined the league. That ended with the Leland McElroy heisman campaign flop in Norman.

If I'm nervous about the outcome, I start the DVR so that I can pause and finish watching tomorrow.

I have lots of delicious protein and a generally happier disposition because of those decsions.

And I still live and die with the Ags (and the Dallas Stars). But I do so a little less deranged.

For those of you that are younger, say under the age of 30, but maybe even older, the CFB season used to be magical because:

Every game mattered for getting any chance at winning a national title.

Winning your regional conference against teams that you and your circle went to and graduated from mattered more.

The old system still made bowl games matter, which by the way, there weren't 100 bowls back then, either. Making the Sun Bowl or Bluebonnet Bowl was a big deal. You had to have a winning record to get that reward, too. Today, we are probably close to having ESPN find a corporate sponsor for two 5-7 teams to play in the Lufkin Bowl.

And last but not least, you knew the players at the college level were staying there for multiple years so you really felt a bond with them.

Today, none of this exists. The playoff system is fun and all, but it really takes away the luster of the regular season games mattering nearly as much as it did. I'm not a fan of having a playoff where there are as many teams as we have now and what it will grow to very soon, just to get more money. When it was at 4, that made the most sense to me, even if you argued about who was the 5th team being left outside looking in. 12 teams just gives the biggest brands a redo for losing a big game or games somewhere along the way (see Ohio State two seasons ago against Michigan in their last game). Even Miami last year got in after losing regular season games to Louisville and SMU yet still got hot at the right time and almost won it all. And the worst part to me is what it has done to bowl games, where you just watch backups play each other, so the starters don't get hurt as they prepare for the NFL or the portal transfer. That's zero fun to me, who grew up watching the Cotton Bowl and Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl to see great players and teams compete for a bowl championship. Those days are long gone and I miss them.

Agree with all of this. College Football was so much better when the main goals were beat your rival, win your conference, and get a bowl game. It was so much more fun then.

The relatively recent obsession over the national championship has ruined college football. I still love college football, just not near as much as I used to

I was at A&M 30 years ago. Lived in Cain hall. Knew several of the players. Even then I never thought I like these guys bc they are so entwined in campus life. Because for most of them, they were not. Football was their job even back then. It took up the majority of their time. I liked some of them because they were good people and Aggies. And before you respond by saying ones today are not Aggies. That's not true, many of them are now just like they were back in the day. My son just graduated and he knew many of the football players and baseball players. Maybe you don't know them because you are not in college anymore. LOL

The aspect of the argument they are not Aggies falls on deaf ears to me and shows me some are looking for reasons to complain that are not factual.

My dad played college ball. His entire starting O line were transfers. Transfers have been happening forever.
