Ok I'm up early today and have to put there that the logic on the top SEC QB's continues to baffle me. Again, I don't expect Marcel to be #1, but I'd obviously love to see him have a great 2026 and come back next year and take that spot but I'm not getting ahead of myself here. But #8 is straight up ridiculous considering every sports media person keeps putting Alabamas undecided QB ahead of Marcel along with other QB's that were injured last year or played at Marcels level (but even that is debatable) . If it's that the feel he was inconsistent is fine but obviously he overcame some of the inconsistency to still produce damn good winning season. Others were inconsistent and had a worse record and many of those haven't reloaded enough to say they will for sure be any better than A&M. If you want to call out Marcels flaws at the end I get it but to deny as a whole the season he had as whole should still put him higher. Just based on the fact that if you have a returning QB whose team had a good season, and we say QB is one of the most important pieces, and place him at 8 makes no sense. Top 5 is where he belong and I feel like will still be the case come the end of this season. It's not very bold to say "he could could be as high as 4" and you put him that low when he has plenty of games to show he's not likely to regress that much, showed a lot of growth last year, especially when you've put others who haven't matched him to this point. Maybe TexAgs will make me feel better about my rant this morning.

Not losing sleep and not saying should be 7. Don't care for the list in general more so he's deserving of a top 5 based on the resume regardless of how the season ended.
I assume his rating has a lot to do with those last two games. Tough competition but not leading your team to a touchdown (defenses figuring him out) the last two games, brings up some doubts on this year. Others, probably showed more improvement last year as the season went on.
Because pre-season guesses are always prophetic???

I think people are misplacing their angst. This is exactly the position you want to be in. The absolute WORST spot to be in is at the top of hype lists and pre-season rankings.
The negative and toxic discourse that comes with not living up to the hype, which happens to all the teams except 1 or 2, is inevitable.
Way better to be a pleasant surprise or a met expectations vs a met expectations or a fraudulent flop.
Which is why this year could be a very good year for all of us ho hate tu. Their inevitable fall from grace and finger pointing should be really really good this year given how much hype they're getting.

Mateer at 3 was the strangest placement in my opinion
Marcel could use the motivation. Had he thrown a TD in the last two games maybe he's higher on the list. If he beats Miami then hes probably top 2

If you watch the interview before the Texas game, Reed thought that he was #1 on the list. Maybe this is a good reminder that he needs to play and not talk.
Reed finished #5 last year in the SEC in QBR. My expectation is he will finish better this year.
It's time to put up or shut up. Third year as a starter. Started 8 games two yrs ago & all 13 last yr. Completion percentage both yrs within 1%, and td/int ratio actually went slightly down last yr (25/12 last yr vs. 15/6 two yrs ago).
Tired of hearing coaches & talking heads say how good he is or how much growth there has been. Show it on the field.

I would for sure rate him above Sellers. He would have to prove that his accuracy has significantly improved before he has a strong argument for passing the others.

You can expect his INT's to go WAY DOWN this season. He threw 11 INT's from under center vs. 1 INT thrown from shotgun formation. Klein couldn't figure that out.
Quit turning it over, especially in the red zone. Pretty simple.

In all fairness, Pate acknowledged this was just about consistency. If Marcel plays like he did for the first 3/4 of the season last year all year long, he's back in the Heisman conversation. If Miami/tu/first half South Carolina show back up, this is an accurate placement.

This is recency bias at play. Marcel regressed tremendously over the course of last season, which is doubly troubling considering the schedule this year. It's going to get much, much harder, and he's behind a mostly new o line, with a new OC, and lost the best WR this team has had in years.
It's amazing that anyone would be up in arms with this list based on the host of issues facing Reed this season.

You mean after starting a whole year a winning the Heisman? He was #2, comically, but finished #1. The year before, he was a nobody because he had no games under his belt. Reed has a season and a half of starts.

bottom line is there are a bunch of really good QBs in the SEC and once you get past Trinidad 2-8 is not that much different. Why people care about these lists is beyond me.

He's way off on everything. He so badly wants a national audience that he goes out of his way to cater to Big 10 and downplay SEC. He's terrible at analyzing teams and players until the season is halfway through, same as the rest of the typical media.
Long story short, what was once an honest and fair local Southeast guy has turned into just another media talking head.

The sad/funny thing is everyone on the game thread was predicting the INT in the end zone during the Miami game.
He certainly needs to change that narrative.

The narrative is out there, fair or not, that Marcel is a good runner but not a good QB. It could work to our advantage if he uses it as fuel to prove them wrong. Traditionally, our program handles bad press better than we do good press.
Marcel has to finish the season and win the biggest games that really count because they get you to the biggest prizes. He hasn't done that yet.
