What a terrible message this sends out to the kids now. Go ahead and gamble on your own games. If you get caught, just claim it was due to "mental illness".

I don't see how Sorsby had a "likelihood of success" on his underlying claim, which is a requirement for a temporary injunction. That said, this is dicey for Tech. If they ultimately lose the case and that happens before the end of the season, all games he played in will be forfeited their post-season won't happen. The NCAA ought to push for a trial to occur ASAP.

Could a judge from Stillwater or Waco issue a restraining order against him?
" Gambling addiction isn't a small problem. A survey found that half of men under 50 have sports-betting accounts. In 2024, 10% of men under 30 had a serious gambling problem. I'll bet it's even higher now."sincereag said:

Tech should have to forfeit every game Sorsby plays in. Problem solved.

Several things need to be cleared up. I think this decision is atrocious. Several here are blaming the NCAA. This decision didn't come from the NCAA. They ruled him ineligible. This was a state district judge that reinstated him. I think that decision was wrong and inexplicable. But this judge is a long standing judge in Fort Worth who is retired but still sits by assignment. He has NO connection with tt.

Up until today, I've made sure my kids have college and pro athletes as their role models. The rapes and crime and womanizing and abandoning education wasn't enough for me to tell them to find new role models. But this gambling, too far!
Big 12 ADs tell @YahooSports they’ve had “serious” talks on not playing Texas Tech. One SEC AD says there should be conversations about not playing Tech “in any sports.”

The Brendan Sorsby ruling has left an industry jarred.

Schools should just cancel their games with Tech. The NCAA already made it clear that's he's ineligible, case closed. Games will get vacated so might as well hurt their resume to keep them out of playoffs.

As much as I love college sports I am hoping it gets shut down for a while until it is fixed.
And I don't care how long that will take to get fixed honestly
This is absurd

We are truly in the "anything goes" stage of college sports. Why not just outbid the NFL for some of their best players. Sue the NCAA and get an injunction if they object.
Crazy
And still, I plan to watch.

"I think there needs to be serious conversations about not playing Texas Tech in any sports," Brooks told Dellenger. "This is not about Texas Tech. It's about protecting our own locker room. We cannot in good conscience put our student-athletes on a field where the competitive integrity of the contest is compromised and overridden by the courts. If a state court wants to dictate eligibility rules, they can play themselves."

So NCAA cannot have a rule like every other sport that you cannot bet on games if you are a player? This is gonna be bad!
I cannot see the reason a judge would enter this order. There is no need for it. NCAA has a rule, kid broke rule, penalty enforced. That should be end of it.
